PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!

I went to a store that recently got about a dozen offshore Charvels in.
I left without one.

Check out The Music Zoo Charvels. I have one of these -

While it's not technically a custom shop guitar it was miles ahead of the production So-Cal I had. You can usually find them at a good price.

Is that Koa or Mahoganey? I really like the look of those naturals. If I were to own another Charvel it would be on of those. I had a parts guitar with Mahoganey body and it sounded pretty good, some seem to prefer alder for Charvels though.

The first pointy heasdtock reissues 2006-2007 have amazing necks on them. They are a great bang for your buck if you can deal with the pointy headstock. Have to agree about the custom shop Charvels - those guys can build phenomenal guitars. I own 2 and have another one on order. BTW - the wait is more like 14-16 months - my latest was ordered Nov 18th of last year and is expected to deliver in Feb 2012.

I have one of these as well. Mine is Mahogany with a BK Holy Diver in the bridge and stock cool rails in the neck. Added Performance brass block. Its my #1. I also think these are some of the best guitars around. Far superior to the Pro Mods I have played.

A "regular" Charvel custom shop they are quoting as an 8-10 month wait. If you insist on a Mike Shannon masterbuilt, add 4 months. If you want a graphic, they ship those guitars out to Dan Lawrence or Mike Learn and that adds about 4 months to the wait.

I have an original Kramer Pacer American from 86 or 87 with low miles ;) if someone is looking. One of the floyd stop blocks gets stuck, and probably could use a new input jack and volume pot. Otherwise is great shape. PM if interested.

Hey thanks alot for the compliments on my music guys.
Heres the deal........ Today I went to 2 music stores and played 3 charvels,
1) a lava burst wildcard 5 I think it was, Did not like it because my pick kept hitting the middle pickup plus i dont want a middle pickup. It looked good though.
2) a So-Cal black with a pickguard, it played the best and suited me the most of all three but I dont like top routes and pickguards or maple fingerboards
3) a Ferrari Red San Dimas, it was nice basically looked like my kramer but I wasnt crazy about the neck it was harder to do bends on it and the neck seemed not wide enough for my liking the guy in the store said it may have had .10 strings which is probably why it was kinda hard to do bends.
Then I played a Lynch Kamikaze LTD, it played ok but seemed cheap and fit and finish didnt seem to great, had a cheap floyd and crappy pickups. It was only like 400 dollars so really how good could it be.
Then I played an LTD Kirk Hammet sunburst green thing. It played very well, I liked it, but not really interested in that guitar because it has too many knobs and they were in weird spots.
Then I played a couple of Ibanez guitars they were in the 900 dollar range, they played great and the build quality and necks were really nice, unfortunately I dont care to much for the shape of their "Strat" style and have never really been a fan of Ibanez.
So Im back to square one. I was all ready to pull the trigger on a Charvel but now I doubt it, im glad I took a test drive today. I would love to play a real custom shop Charvel but no one around here has one that I know of.
Im just going to mull it over awhile, right now Im leaning towards just having my guitar completely rebuilt by a good luthier.
Guitars are so personal and I have very specific needs and wants so it may be tough for me to find what I want in the 1000 dollar range for now. I may just have to wait a while until I can pull the trigger on a Real ESP.
Thanks alot everyone for your input. Although I have been playing for almost 30 years I am very ignorant when it comes to gear and amps and such so I will enjoy learning from you guys on this forum.

I have the Wild Card #7 (bought it from Chubtone) and it just flat out rips. It does have a recessed body for the Floyd.

Great guitar

Thats great Hab glad you enjoy it, I really wish there was one around here i could try, that guitar still really appeals to me but after my test drives today there is no way I can buy one off the internet without testing it out first.

Here's what you do. Find the best playing guitar that you can at Guitar Center. Put it on a credit card, take it home and don't scratch it up. Take your Kramer to a good luthier and let him have at it. Make sure you bring the GC axe back before your 30 days are up to get a refund. If necessary to give the luthier enough time, buy another loaner from GC if you need something to fill the gap in the meantime.

i have a wildcard # 5 i am thinking about offing, or i would trade the rosewood board for a maple board
