Cheap guitar for modern metal.

What's a good hard tail, no floyds or vintage trem, for modern chug. No Gibsons or Fenders either. And keep the price between $500-$800.

The PRS SE's are great guitars. I had an early 2000's singlecut prior to getting my slew of core models, and it was the best $275 guitar I've ever played.

esp horizon, you can find a hardtail used for 800 or 900 and they will chug all day!!!

See I bought that $475 Charvel in the classifieds and after setting up to my liking it's fucking awesome. I feel like going cheap on a few guitars. We just bought a car, paved the driveway, bunk bed for the kids. So guitars are going cheap.

Id say something like this or an Ibanez RG or S for under $500.

If you want to spend up to $800, ESP for sure. I both Ibanez S and ESP Horizon and like them both but you can tell where that extra money went when you play it.

Haha yeah I gave away that guitar , but Im glad you got it. There are good guitars out there in your price range but buying that Charvel from me for $475 is not the norm. Most of the time cheap feels cheap.

With that being said as others mentioned I also think Esp/Ltd would be the way to go for an inexpensive metal axe.

do like i do now, i have old Ibanez 565's and i block the trems. Only goes down but i get the tuning stability of the Edge, wich is phenomenal. Put a D tuna and you have one hell of a quality and versatile guitar. Instant drop tuning that never goes out of tune.

The Charvel desolation series is incredible for the money. Top notch features, hardware and pickups in all the models. Can't go wrong.

Pretty much anything really. Pickups and amps are more important than the guitar itself in this case. Just pick something that feels good to you and swap the pickups.

Unfortunately most of the best "metal guitars" I can think of have trems. If you don't mind blocking them the best cheap metal guitars I can think of are the older Ibanez RGs or some type of Jackson Dinky. Depends on the type of neck or wood you like too. I think a lot of the Ibanez are basswood and the jacksons are alder.

The Ibanez has a "D" shaped neck with a flat spot on the back that I don't like as much. You can get Dinkys, or older fusions or performers that were MIJ but the necks are a little more round and the actions are better IMO. The board on the Jacksons are a little wider and flatter, I think the radius was like 16" on those.

I found a MIJ Jackson PS-4 on eBay for $200 and it's stupid how well this guitar has served me and most of you RT vets know what a whore I was

Just my opinion but these are some of the cheapest feeling lightweight guitars I've owned. I thought the first one was a fluke so I got another one and it just turned out they were both turds

I'd look into the Ibanez RGA121 or whatever they were called. Fixed bridge, mahogany body, and the RGA carved top shape is beautiful for modern metal IMHO.

For 200-300 you can find an indo Jackson SLSMG used...they seem to be all over Craigslist. EMGs, neck through...the ones I see are string through, but there are Floyd equipped as well.

I had an LTD years ago that I got brand new for $500 I believe. To this day, with all of the guitars I've owned in my life, still probably top three.

Or get an Edwards on Reverb from Japan... They make awesome guitars.

Jackson MIJ "pro" series from the mid 90's. Basically just as good as the USA Select Jacksons for around 6-700 bucks. Problem with them is you have to watch for a while for one to pop up as they are getting rare.

I agree. I'm rocking 2 Cu24 SEs for my Drop C stuff, and 2 singlecut style SEs for the Standard E 'bro rock' band lol

Yep I found one of these real beat up on eBay for like $250 before. One of the guys on this forum gave it a paint job for me and it's pretty much my only guitar now.
