Cheap ss power amps….

I dont know if it's cheap but the Victory Power valve looks pretty nice. I plan on waiting a bit longer for the Wampler Pedalhead.

After using my GT1000fx for years, I recently drug my old ART SLA-2 out of the closet that I haven't used in years. I was surprised that I actually preferred it to the Matrix because the low end seems to hit harder. I think the issue is the Matrix has a small switching power supply so it can't bring those huge low end spikes. The ART has a huge ass transformer in it, which I assume can provide more power for big chugs.
Hmm, I’ve been using a gt1000fx for years also (reamping loaded tube amps) but I did use an old 400 watt matrix power amp from the 90’s before that, which I still have. It has a big toroid transformer. Maybe I should dig it out and compare.

First I got you noticing the Axe II was messing with the dynamics, now I will get you noticing the Matrix is also, lol.

Yeah, I did the same. I have been using the Matrix for years to reamp my tube amps loaded down. I pulled out my old ART a few months ago that I used to use years ago before I got the Matrix, and I think the bass hits a little harder with it. The Matrix seems to smooth the low mids and bass together some. It is not as dynamic on the low end. I have been using the ART again the last few months.

The Avantone CLA 100/200/400 is where it's at for current production SS power amps. Mosfet powered, good quality parts and convection cooled (no fan).
I don't know how easy they are to find in the used market but they're not expensive to begin with. Best sounding SS I've heard since the old Lee Jackson units.

If it's for the Kemper into a cab, it's highly-recommended that you avoid a tube amp. The tube emulation is already baked into Profiles.

Any good class AB, class D or similar should do the job as long as you have enough power to satisfy.

I use an SLA2 as my wet power amp in my wdw rig. I occasionally just run it by itself with dry preamp added and it sounds great. Great in a bass rig as well, combined with a preamp.

clean solid state power amp with more power than the ISP Stealth?

Crown, Ashly, Yamaha, QSC,...

I experimented with the cheaper Crown class D thing for a while. Had a really fun practice rack using the Crown for power, kind of built around cheaper rack stuff. Made it for fun and to learn to set up midi.

It sounded great in the bedroom. Used it to jam with friend who was using a very basic tube combo. I could get plenty of volume, but I couldn’t overcome the lack of something, felt like the tone lacked balls compared to the tube combo.

I even tried running my tube Synergy preamp stuff into the crown, didn’t overcome the problem. There were probably less than optimal impedance stuff going on, but I just couldn’t get the SS Class D where I wanted, especially if there was a tube amp in the room.

Don’t let my experience keeping you from trying it. A Crown with more wattage than you need can cost about the same as some pedal. Maybe you can get it to work for your application, and I might figure out I was missing something.

I like that the Avantone's are Class A/B but I didn't see anything about them being Mosfet driven?????:dunno::2thumbsup:

Wasn't that why Matrix stopped production, supposedly they could get the same parts any longer?

I like my old Mosvalve & HH power amps. I've had both V & VX series for the HH, both great.
Even the smaller Marshall Valvestate are nice to me.
Big transformers and big capacitors give big tone, feel and low end IMHO. Here's a H&H V800 chassis pic.

I just want massive clean power. And if I can run four cabs even better. Why? Cause fuck it that’s why….
Not sure about massive power, but the Duncan Powerstage 200 pedal is cool, affordable (maybe not ' cheap'...) . I've gigged with a Friedman IR-D > Powerstage 200 direct out into a guitar cabinet and a house board at the same time with good results. That little rig fits in a really small bag and has been my backup for a good while, no more bringing a full second head out. They also make a 700 watt rack type version
