Clearest pickup?

I’ll look at that one. Have tried holy diver, painkiller, aftermath, miracle man, so far
So have I and I didn’t like any of them... so funny that it’s literally those exact same pickups. I would buy another BK Pickup again.
As for clarity, you might want to check out a hot wound PAF type pickup. If you want a little hotter, maybe the SD 59 hybrid?

Also, if you're willing to think outside the box, I have a set of PRS McCarty's in a decently heavy LP and I'm always shocked when I pick that guitar up, after weeks or whatever playing my ESPs with EMGs or my RGA121 with Black Winters in it.

Clear as plastic wrap....lower output, think they're like 9k bridge and 8k neck, should be A5 in the bridge and A2 neck. Boosted, not an issue but I DO have some amps here that don't really like them.

If your talking about the 58/15 LT, McCarty 594 models are equipped in both bridge and neck with these pickups. Indeed low wind/resistance. This pickup is as clear as any MotorCity and Bare Knuckle PU out there. Ive got a 594 SC with these in it. I'm about to buy a set to replace my MCP I have in a DV8.

My opinion may suck but Fishman Keith Merrow I had and thats exactly why I didn't like them. Not that they were bad but neutral is the exact word I'd use to describe them. They're like the P50e of pickups.

Edit for the lols. This Guitar was in Drop G/A. Not to stir the pot but it sounds like lack of experience implying you cant get the utmost extreme clarity in very low tunings.

Those are great too, but what I was taking about are the older ones; I think the ones in my LP were from a maybe ‘96-‘98 McCarty. Love those things with the right amp.

Yeah Drop C is only a full step down from standard / drop D. Its not that low considering whats out there .

Ultrasonic Pickups were incredibly clean / clear with a very flat EQ response. They do appear on Reverb and eBay from time to time. I had them in my Jackson Soloist and bolt-on Jackson Strat back in the late 80s and still regret selling those guitars.

Gotcha and agreed. PUs are so subjective too. Glad you got pups in a LP that whip some ass.

Lots of good options. For hotter, the Lundgren M6 or Lundgren Black Heaven. For lower output, the WCR Icebucker or MCP Nasty Nasty.

You guys all have rigs with more than enough gain. You want clarity? Try the SD '59n.

It is what Holdsworth used (I know he had a "signature" pickup, blah blah blah). I use it. It is a hum bucker with a Telecaster EQ. Fantastic.

Maybe a Dimarzio Steve's special John Petrucci pickup, I think it boosts all frequencies across the board. I don't know where it lands output wise but I would say a high output. That being said, I've never cared too much for Dimarzios over the years.

Possibly a straight up PAF pickup that's not overwound, overwinding tends to push mids which you say you don't want.

To add to the Steve's Special, it is in the high output category, and is somewhat scooped in the mids, so it'll do the clarity thing you're asking for I think. Also, with an Air Norton in the neck of a 24-fret guitar using the inner coils in parallel, the sound is pretty spectacular for cleans/light drive.

I feel like a lot of guys don't understand that 7 strings are 6 strings with a lower perfect 4th. I like to drop that 4th to A. If you were to put the same strings/tuning on a 6 string you would leave off the E4 (1rst string). Do you think a 7 string guitar is muddy? Perhaps Steve Vai and Satrioni's tone are lacking clarity? Maybe you could send an email to Vai about the resonant peaks. Then he could stop being a bassist

Honestly, the Miracle Man is not the BKP I'd go to for clarity; I think if that's the goal you'd be best served by checking out the Impulse, Rebel Yell, True Grit, Emerald, Black Dog or Riff Raff (in descending output). Any of those can sound incredible through the sort of rig you're using, I'd recommend the thicker the strings you're using, the lower output you go (since the string mass will generate more output/low end).
The Aftermath is a bit of a weird one, I agree about the harsh mid spike it has. I'd stay away from the Painkiller and Brute Force for the same reasons, if I were you.

From other brands, you might want to check out the Dimarzio Fortitude, the Air Norton (yep, it sounds killer in the bridge position and handles the thick string/low tuning thing better than the regular Norton), the Seymour Duncan Custom 5 or Pegasus.

Essentially, I'd recommend concentrating on something in the 8.5-9k range (wound with 42AWG) or the 12.5-14.5k range (wound with 43AWG), and probably stick to Alnico 5 models. There are plenty of exceptions, but that range of wind tends to give the right mid voicing to work great under high gain, without excessive low end muddying things up.

Drop C and clarity in the same discussion. Funny.
I really hate to pick on you, but damn. It is pretty much known that trolling a post is in bad taste. Maybe the title interested you and then you got butthurt because it was dirty metal heads. You are a "well known" member, and I feel like I have seen your posts where you don't act like an ignorant child, so it further surprises me. Just think when gibson and fender were making electric guitars, and all the folk/bluegrass guys were talking about what an abomination it was. You wonder why someone would call you a boomer? I don't like justin bieber, but i don't go stalk his youtube videos to talk about it. Sometimes I click on a post of a clip, and it will be labeled high gain, but it is high gain like a tubescreamer on a fender twin, and every fiber of my being wants to set the person on fire that thinks that is high gain, but I just get out of the post without being an asshole because I am an adult.

Im thinking i need to go to lower/medium output pups... the nazguls say medium output but feel hot af.
