Interestingly enough, I bought two Harley Benton 2x12 Vintage V30 cabs to use with my stuff a while back.
One was used, and very mellow. The other was new, and a bit bright.
I would have had no problem gigging them, and they were a great budget option at the time.
Long gone though. I now use Cream Alnicos.

When one piece of gear comes in, another must go out.

I used to be like that, when I was broke, and struggling. If better came along, then the old would be traded, generally.
One guitar, one combo, and a modified Echoplex - for years. Never looked at gear, ever. But owning a Floyd one day was in the back of my mind.
Then my girlfriend arranged a loan!
Then it was two guitars with Floyds, two combos in stereo, and two dual-digital delays to replace the tape echo.
After a combo caught fire, I finally racked everything up. The rack became a single entity, regardless of what was in it. So that’s sort of cheating really.
Future changes were exploring digital reverb, and intelligent harmonisers, and emulating a Leslie speaker. Those purchases were made, and incorporated into the system. There was nothing dispensable in my gear. It just kind of grew. Suddenly, I had a $10K rack-system, two midi-boards, and a mile of cable.
When I stopped gigging, and concentrated on home-recording - This was when I had to sell stuff to pay for recording gear.
I went back to my two guitars, one valve amp, and a small ambient fx rack with a load-box.
Now it’s two guitars, valve amp, load box - with fx on the computer.
Kind of full circle really. I only play with one full-gain setting. So if another amp came along, then I would probably trade the current one.

Two things.
I like helping people with gear, and come from a highly pro standpoint - where there is a right way to do things. Nice to share what is all the more forgotten - with the recent rise of so many fucking flake techs. These cunts would cancel Pete Cornish just to retain views of their misinformation crap.
Secondly, I love humour, and given my age, this includes faggot-baiting, misogyny, and anything involving human-waste products. I’ll be careful, but it’s not easy.

To be honest MAtt, the whole world is being sold on hi-mid mayhem with regard to amps. Been like that for a while now.
Why is this? Could it be that the only valves manufacturers can get, are JJ and Shuguang? Probably.
So they are fitting new amps and designing them around valves that have the most disgusting fucking sounds known to man, and marketing these shitarse hi-mids to fuck - because that is how the valves are voiced.
No wonder people can’t dial in a sound.
Anyone that has their presence above 5 is a total cunt anyway.

As much as dirt pedals have progressed, amps and modelers still sound better in my experience.

I can get great passable tones with my dirt pedals, but the moment I fire up one of my amps, with OD channels, it's game over..
I have tried at least a hundred different dirt pedals in my years. My amps and modeler still sound and feel better IMO...

Too right.
I’ve settled on very neutral amps that are ultra-stable. They tend to have one gainy sweet-spot, and I use front-end mids, and tend to post-EQ after my load-box.
I won’t say it’s superior, but it works here - probably because I’m using Mullards, and hate hi-mid cacophony.
Both amps have the treble around 1, with presence on the Victory around 1 too. This limits gain, but it’s enough for me, or anyone really.
The amps respond to my playing, without any agenda of their own - no vices.

I set my fullest lead gain up on both, with the guitar on 7 or 8. Then I can turn the front mids off and reduce guitar volume to clean up for rhythm and whatever, right down to 1. Huge range of responses in between. Guitar never goes above 8. Everyone should do this. Wide open guitars are not a nice thing, to me. Setting your gear up with potential headroom makes better sense.

I can hear when a guy has his guitar on 10.
But then, I can discern differences in Fuzz Face batteries too.
