Hack
Some of you know this already, but plugging into a high gain amp and playing a palm muted powerchord just once at volume could potentially get you addicted to heroin. It happened to my second cousin.

I know there have been a lot of guys telling you that some things are safe because thousands of people have tested it with absolutely no ramifications, but i urge you to use common sense and maths when using your gear ... Hell, wear a condom for god's sake when playing just in case. I wouldn't want anyone blowing a tranny.

Just don't believe the experts that work at the companies of your gear and tell you it is safe. It could cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars and your transistors could be lost forever.

Be safe out there Rig-talkers and have a wonderful weekend.

The dumbest thing I ever did was play thru my Splawn Quickrod with no speaker load. They were Small Blocks, which is Scott's take on a Greenback. I'm whacking at the strings and messing with knobs and then I realized my friend plugged the speaker cable into my FX return by mistake (we were swapping heads around). But no tranny's were blown.

Personally, I think it would be impossible to blow one of these trannys :dunno:

Look. I know a guy that blows trannys as often as he makes a pizza. I think he could do it

I rehooked up my amp in a hurry one time and out the return of my effects loop into the empty speaker jack as I was only running one cab.

I believe my isolation transformer on my pedalboard (the last pedal) may have saved me from frying my pedals

I blew an amp once.... Wasn't cool, shit sucked and it was a nice amp. An MIA Classic 30.....its a cathode based amp so no bias needed and I'd always swap GTs and JJs no problem.

Transformer melted as well as shit on the board. And I had more than enough power too using an Eminence Screaming Eagle....

I used NOS Russian tubes I got on Ebay. People on the Internet/Forums said it was fine but they red plated and didn't notice and by the time I did it was too late. Shit sucked because it sounded great and buddys used it for their Sublime Cover band and they loved it more than their amps and PA. It sounded tits. Always would crank the shit out of it and nothing would ever go wrong until I used those NOS Russian tubes on Ebay people would recommend.

It was supposed to be military grade and robust and everyone said they were safe.....I got the EV versions which cost more and were supposed to last forever and sound great. Shit blew up my amp.

At least I got it for 300 bucks used after winning money at the Casino. But when that shit blew no one was going to replace it for me even though many online and on forums said the tubes were safe.

Maybe other than that the stupidest thing I did was use a 12 volt for my Hardwire CM2 because I thought it could handle it as it had an internal voltage doubler. Nope..... That was me just being an idiot.

Probably the worst was the Classic 30 so after that I just don't use shit that isn't from a reputable source/brand, don't just take dudes word on whatever or anything and just follow the spec sheets/official data and common sense.

Cool thing about the amp was that once I actually left it on for 2+ hours going to In-N-Out, it was feeding back loud as fuck that whole time and never blew up. It only blew up when I used those Military Russian tubes everyone recommended from forums on eBay. This was way way back I must have been a teenager.

To this day I always check my amps for red plating on the tubes after some long sessions 😂

I wish I was like these guys complaining about chasing the tone in their head. My problem is I want every tone that pops into my head and every tone I hear on albums. One day I’m convinced I need to be a Tele picker into a clean Fender, the next 8 string active pickups into a 5150. Champagne tastes, beer budget.

But luckily I haven’t made any costly mistakes and blown anything. (I wouldn’t pay to blow, maybe the other way around- I’m selfish). Only really stupid mistake was selling a Charvel 750xl for hundreds of dollars 15 years ago and watching every one since sell for thousands of dollars.

1. You just can't let it go can you?
2. That was an extremely long post for such little content.
3. Russian NOS tubes are some of the best but Peavey runs their amp on the cools side, so a lower matched quad of EL84s should have been fine.

Sometimes we make dumb decisions, and sometimes bad shit happens to us and it is out of our control.

But when we let fear guide our decisions, we often miss out on badass opportunities. When we let past occurrences unrelated to the current situation dictate our decisions, then we may be over cautious.

If you want to stay on the safe side of the line at all times, that is fine. But I am metal as fuck. And if I blow up my amp or speakers playing the fuck out of it, then I guess I had it coming.

Sometimes when I am about to do a heavy squat, I feel a twinge in my knee and wonder if the thing will blow out. Lots of guys just quit lifting at this point and those guys never end up putting up real weight. I just kind of laugh to myself wondering if this will be the day and drop that fucking weight and fight it back up.

There are two types of people: pleasure seekers and pain avoiders. The pain avoiders are often baffled at how care free the other side is and seem to think it is magic that nothing ever goes wrong with them. Pushing the limits isn't scary. It is how you party

Right on. Didn't work for me.....

Yeah I feel, I biked a lot so I would probably do stupid things like ride to Hollywood and back or go to the beach and back like 3 times for 80-90 mile rides. I did better than most going up a mountain. Would even train on the River trail in the middle of 50+ gust winds, sprint going down a mountain at 70+ mph and just other stupid shit that isn't safe..... But shit was fun 😊. It worked but there were always risk and I was ignoring them sometimes. Sometimes shit went bad too and that isn't pretty on a bike.

When I buy amps I crank the shit out of it to make sure it can handle after that too and well other than doing that I haven't ever blown an amp. So I get what you mean, a lot of good stuff happens in the power section too and actually most good stuff aside from a solid preamp section. I like to move air.

I'll crank a Blues Deluxe or a Twin or an OG 5150. I agree pushing limits is where the fun is had but as always there are risk.

I've done stuff like run a 60 watt amp into a Greenback, or say a 100 watt amp into a Greenback or V30 or P12Q no problems to test out at low volumes just shooting stuff out..... I know the risk, I use discretion but either way I dont advise people do it because I do. I know the risk and I take it and if it fucks up shits on me at that point so I get man and I agree there.

I guess it's not for me that I say shit like that or dudes like you or other vets and seasoned players and pros.... Dudes know the risk and they know what may happen or not and use discretion, nothing wrong with that.... Its for the inexperienced player and well inevitably some shit may happen and if one is taking risk it's good to know what they are, how to mitigate them but yeah I agree high risk high reward and that's not bad either.

Hendrix/EVH sounded fucking great and they pushed the limit all the time and well if you know what you're doing, are comfortable taking the risk I have no problem with that and more power to you. Whatever the case is, for me it's about having fun and whatever it takes to have fun, enjoy and feel the sound👍

If that's not happening then what are we doing and somethings wrong 😂
