How about your state government suspending gas taxes? That would lower the costs too. State tax on gas per gallon ranges from $0.15 (Alaska) to $0.58 (Pennsylvania), and averages $0.2915 to $03260 per gallon.
I bought regular gas at Shell (not the cheapest) for $3.699 a gallon, and regular at Chevron for $3.799 a gallon (also not the cheapest); I could save $0.10 a gallon if a join their rewards programs. The cheapest regular gas here is $3.09 a gallon. Our state has temporarily suspended state tax on gas, but we're a red state.
Fact is, Iran's oil wells are based on older designs (same for Iraq); they are more susceptible to damage if shutdown before the oil is depleted, causing lower output and possibility of contamination on a restart. UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc., use newer well technology that doesn't have this problem, or has it to a lesser degree, limited to their older oil wells.
