Coverdale announcing new guitarist shortly...

If Coverdale stays in the "Is This Love" range, his voice still sounds great. That is where the Purple stuff was and even through Slide It In. David, stick to that range, and it will be all good.

Joel is a great player, I'm excited to hear what they come up with.

I bet he can't wait to play all the hits tuned down to B.

I think that pretty much nails it... get someone else besides Coverdale to sing and the show could really rock! Time for a lot of these singers to realize that they just can't do it anymore... let the band go on with fresh blood and audition for a handful of younger guys that remind you of yourself. That could be a great reality show.. (even though it has been done)

Joel is a great guitarist and I am sure this is a great paying gig, but it is a waste of a great talent to be playing with Coverdale at this stage of his career. I am glad Aldrich left so he can go on to better things.

Do we think Aldrich left because of Coverdale's voice etc? They seemed to be good friends and writing partners.

So, how many guitar players does this make for Whitesnake now? Haven't they set some kind of record?

:jerkit:

Wonder if Joel's still playing 5150III's. He made them sound really good.

Local south side Chicago boy

Manteno?
No he's from the Worth area.
  whatever. I found out today that it was Orland Park. Beyond Black went to high school with him.
Yep. Grew up in Orland Park, then Hickory Hills. Close friend of mine since '87. Horrifying guitarist and even cooler dude.

OK....I remember seeing him a couple of years back when they were touring with Journey. He was great live!

They'll do well. Everyone will leave the show thinking how good the band sounded. After a few Gremlin nightmares that is.

Oh wow, I am on the edge of my seat. Please tell me which washed up rocker the washed up rockers will choose!

While Coverdale's voice isn't the same, Father Time is undefeated, his band will be top notch with a kick ass PRO guitar player.

It's ok though, you can always go listen to any of the thousands of Djent bands that all sound exactly the same.

You make the assumption that anyone that doesn't like cock rock has to be a mindless djent drone? Nope, absolutely zero love for djent over here. I just fell into the crowd in the 80s that preferred the harder stuff. Apologies but I just don't see how a band that is 20+ years past their prime getting a new guitarist is a big deal at all. I mean, I am a huge Anthrax fan and whenever they do a member change, I don't care much either, or Testament for that matter, and they still make good music to date.

Great, more tapping

While I don't want to piss in anyone's cornflakes.. From what I saw on Youtube (checked out a couple of videos), JH is a killer player, but not as rooted in heavy blues as Sykes and Aldrich. If anything, he seemed more similar to Reb than Doug. Not that it matters, I'm sure he'll play "crying in the rain" as it's supposed to be played :D

Exactly.

I mean, of course he is great, but if you already have Reb (awesome too) with that vibe, why not going for a different style or just making Reb the only guitar player on WS?

I think Joel with surprise a lot of people.. I was listening to his older stuff and I think the guy can cover blues to tap no problem. In fact, I think he has a feel and a sense of melody that may surprise people. He'll definitely be able to play the tunes the way they are intended to play. I do think Reb is a monster player and could prob step in to handle the leads, but he does tap way too f-cking much and lean on that bar too much so I am glad they have someone else coming in.

He seems to have enough chops here..plus he sounds good on a show that usually makes people sound like ass:

Joel can play anything from classical to blues, to chicken pickin to metal and everything in between. Whatever Whitesnake requires of him, he will excel at. Do yourselves a favor and check out his solo cd's,"Undefined", "The Moon is Falling" and "13 Acoustic Songs." Amazing albums. The first two feature Virgil Donati and Rick Fierabracci. Not a bad rhythm section.
