Got this M-I via GC used and dig it but it has this crack in the headstock. How serious of a problem could this be in the future? Is this a “absolutely rerun it and don’t look back” situation?

I mean it's GC. The only reason you buy there is the return policy. Back it goes. Why should you spend a couple hundred to have CA worked into the crack and lose several hundred more in resale value when you can make your problem go away for free?

There's lots of Mirages in the world.

Can’t disagree with any of this. Problem is I’ve bonded with it a bit over the past few weeks. But yea it needs to just go back

I have a similar crack in close to the tuner like that in my 83 Kramer maple neck, I don't remember how I cracked probably something really dumb from back in the day.

My luthier put some lateral pressure on it to open up the crack and then applied some thin adhesive glue into the crack and then took the lateral pressure off. Then he clamped the headstock while it cured. He said it would never grow and the glued joint would be stronger than the wood around it.

The crack has never grown since it was glued FWIW. GC may say you cracked it since you have had it a while though. :dunno:

If you like the guitar and they take some money off to get it fixed I'd get it glued and enjoy the guitar since it sound like it plays well and you like it.

Did you see the crack before you bought it?

How deep is it. Looks like a lacquer crack in the pics….

You know I was wondering that myself. I’m not entirely sure that it’s actually the wood and is not just lacquer. I’ll need to look at it more closely when I get home

Well in my mind, it’s not really mine yet. It’s on loan from GC til I decide. It’s not a model that is hard to replace- it’s current production but I’ve played this game before. You get another one and it just ain’t the same as the first one you had.
Yes, very true. When you get a good one, don't let it go.

If it were me, especially being a more mass produced guitar, and I really bonded with it... I would try a couple of the other of the same type and see if those were close enough to return it... if not, its just some glue and clamping it.

When you bond with a guitar and it just fits and feels good... you know it, so I get what you are saying.
