There's better quality video of this but I prefer
it raw & real.
Man..this f'er has so much power & bounce..
And not many drummers can hit both crashes
like that and it not be too over the top or cheeseball'head., it's f'n LOUD,
better have the force!
That's where his level of musicianship and drumming seats.
Next level shit.
Like BONHAM, his syncopations are very guitar
riff oriented.
He knows exactly where guitar players want it.
Rad to see him pull this straight up performance
with such wicked precision at his age.
I know, I'm sick of him too and the Kurdt' thing.
Well done, Dave.

I'm not sick of him, love that dude.

you said it perfectly, he's a monster on the drums...

Dave Grohl, next level? :hys:

Dave Grohl's style is conventional music by numbers for all it's proficiency. He brings nothing new or different to drumming; there are hundreds, maybe thousands of drummers currently working who could do what he does or better. He's a talented professional, but not in the Bonham class. Bonzo was unique, no one has ever sounded like him, I doubt if anyone could. What he did with time signatures the best jazz drummers would have trouble reproducing. He stands alone, R.I.P.

You could make a case for Grohl being the pop-rock-metal GOAT

I think Dave is an incredibly talented cat and writes great songs. He seems to be a workaholic and constantly turns out music but unfortunately a byproduct of that is what I have termed “Foo-tigue“ and I have it.

great drummer. i been playing drums more lately and i want to play like him. taylor hawkins is absolutely bad ass too

Technical drumming has ways been less interesting to me as a drummer than musical drumming. Dave was a huge part of that Nirvana sound and the guy is steady as hell. He knows where to put the punctuation marks and often drove Kurt's slow sludgy rythms. Not a huge Nirvana fan or FF for that matter but I appreciate the guy. His passion for music and old gear too.

Most of the guys i love however, would be considered way more technical than he is. MIckey Dee, Lombardo, Menza, Paice, Nicko. But all of those guys also didn't just play beats, they made music. That's the important thing. Mangini is incredible but his drumming bores me. Too much shit going on for example.Too many Neil Peart rolls.

I hear ya, me too. I like listening to him talk about music more than I do listening to him play it.

I was with you until there. That's a little much hahaha

Lol totally is. Buddy Rich wouldn't have too hard a time playing Bonham. Honestly , this is not a popular opinion but I think Paice was much farther ahead as a drummer than Bonham was. Way more tools but I dig Bonham too of course. I think the best rock drummers came out in the 70's. So many guys who could jam. Insane chops and feel.

Ian Paice...

I talked with Ian at a Yngwie show. He seemed cool enough, but then I didn't approach him like your typical fanboi sprout.

Dave and some good production took Nirvana next level, and put them on top of the world. No denying his drum power, and overall musicianship. Dude is talented, for sure.

Great drummer, good all around musician, cool guy. As a songwriter and vocalist, he's no Grant Hart or Bob Mould, which he'd freely admit.

Dave Grohl is your typical single-stroke rock drummer. Hits 'em hard. Semi-solid meter. Nothing especially interesting about his playing.

Got nothin' for his music or playing...., the only thing cool about him is that he seems to appreciate some classic metal/hard rock and he seems like a good dude.

Don,t know if the description fit Dave because i never listened him enough, but i know the feeling to play with that kind of drummers. No dynamics, always hit everything at full force...

I've played with better garage drummers.
