Delay trails

How can I use the gear I have to get this effect? I have a rocktron intellipitch and it has delays but I also have two Yamaha mono D1500 delays. I thought I could have them on all the time and just switch them on/off via midi but how to get them to fade?

You probably need to physically mute the inputs, like all the those old huge rack systems did. Do you have a loop system and a mixer?
