Triple D dude ranch?

Powers of D cubed?

What's our band name?

Thank you to @Devin and @dstroud for helping me lay down some shteel for my song!

The solos go

Darren
Darren
Devin
Dan
Devin

For anyone who is interested

Anyone else who wants to lay down a solo on the next one message me! I'll hit you up next time I have a song ready. You can send me a DI, or you can send me your amp tone, either is fine and I'll make it work! Just please no delay, verb, or chorus please 😬 It makes it exponentially more difficult to mix. But if you want to lay down a solo, I'll fit you in.

No, you don't have to be a super shredder, just need to be able to record yourself decently or record a DI.

The rhythm tones are a huge mix of like 10 guitar tracks - I started when the MGL was still here (what a killer amp!) but there's also layers of larry, 5150, and @dead-pan JEL profiles!

Also, there's massive amounts of keyboards, I basically wrote an entire separate song just with the keyboards, and I basically went apeshit. It took me like a week of live tracking, midi mapping, and working on effects, mixing, programming, and routing. Since my giant dental surgery Ive had some free time 🤷‍♂️ Just in case anyone is curious about the insane amount of work I put into the keyboards, here's a track of them soloed:

Anyways, feel free to tell us how much we rule! Or conversely, how much we suck and have no feeeeeel maaaaan! Or even how you think my songs have no "groove" because I don't play classic rock! That's always a classic. But more specifically, come play solos next time for my next track!

Very cool man, this was fun - I love seeing things like this on the board. I was playing it and the wife goes - that’s a cool riff. Then the solo comes in and she’s like is that you?? Haha she really dug it, and being a keyboardist appreciated those added parts. Killer job Dan!!

Your wife has excellent taste

Thanks for laying down some sick solos Darren! I appreciate you taking the time

And yes, my mom forced me to take piano lessons for years before she would let me get a guitar, and she was probably correct because now I have it in my back pocket when I need it on recordings :ROFLMAO: Unfortunately, that also means when I start I can't stop writing, programming and layering until it seems decent, even though I don't think of myself as a "keyboard player"

Mom’s know best!! the keys are killer

I really enjoyed the background music on this, but I even enjoyed the solos more.

Great work guys !!!!

Thanks man! I was blessed to have devin and darren share their skills =)

If you've got any kind of a home recording setup at all, you should lay one down next time!

You have no idea how funny this is. My solo work is simple; bordering...hell not even bordering on retarded

That actually makes taking a solo even more fun

So back in the day, the other homies in all the local punk bands were all great dudes, but many of them (naturally) sucked at guitar

But they knew i didn't suck at guitar

So they would ask me for help writing their solos

But the thing is, I had to keep it easy enough for them to handle playing

And I discovered that actually makes the solo even better - if you are technically limited because you need to focus on melody, timbre, and texture and shit like that, you are forced to make something catchy, or something outside the box

So after a while they got comfortable enough with playing the solos I wrote for them that they would start working out how to do it themselves 🤷‍♂️

Even if you can't shred or whatever, that's just one tool in the toolkit that you can't use. You still have every color crayon except for green or whatever - you can make it work.

Every time i try to write a solo, it ends up becoming an intro or lead line..at least for metal. Blues and rock solos are a bit more straightforward, though selection and self editing still make the difference

Just start out with a melody, or even a rhythmic pattern instead of thinking of it that way

It can be a lead line; just make the lead line change or adapt or take you on a ride

Then its a solo

That is excellent advice that would probably benefit me to try

Good stuff! I especially liked the riff just before the 2:00 mark, it was a tease to use it so sparsely lol. Tasty leads, gentlemen.

That's my favorite riff of the whole song too :ROFLMAO:

I only used it twice because I was thinking "oh my god thats so cool, but everyone's going to think the pinch harmonics are cheesy if it repeats too much"
