So he provides what you asked for and then you say "that doesn't count"...? lol

Here he is using the Stealth.... and it still sounds like good old Edward. If you can't make it speak, you can't make it speak. The gear only gets you so far.

Yup.

Ed would sound like Ed thru a gorilla amp.

Yup.

Not hearing much besides a stockish level of distortion.

Yep, it sounds exactly like a really well sorted, healthy stock plexi

Anyone who has ever played one IRL will recognize the telltale way it reacts to the muting, playing dynamics volume rolloff, and the "squishy" low end

The fact that this is MyStErIoUs to anyone is one of the greatest psychological questions in gear history

You can act all nonchalant about it now, but when I get his tone, you are going to be sooo jealous. Then you will change your tone

I
Yeah bro, I will change my tone...

,... to the 4000 really convincing EVH kemper profiles i've made and downloaded the past couple years
Idk, man. I love his rhythm tone, don't get me wrong. I don't think anyone is arguing that it wasn't awesome.

I am just continuously baffled that
1. Anyone thinks it was so special that it is still relevant and
2. That anyone really thinks it was that big of a secret how he did it

I like the part how even Eddie himself moved on from that tone

Exactly. And it probably wasnt even that he thought he could get a better one. He was probably just sick of it and wanted a new one. I have had so many tones dialed in I like. But i keep moving the knobs to see what else is out there.

That is why we are on this site. We could all find a usable tone and get better at guitar...but we need to chase the dragon and buy a new guitar/pedal/amp that is going to be that final piece that makes our shitty playing sound glorious

Same. I could download a profile someone in bumfuck egypt made, and do a convincing "running with the devil" in like 14 minutes.

This tone isn't hard to come by, it isn't a mystery, and threads about it are burnt toast at this point

Every time I make a steak, I do it a little differently. Even though the last one was wicked delicious.

This video alone tells you everything one needs to know about how Ed's amp actually sounded before Ted Templeman and Don Landee mixed VH1.

Yes. You can find interesting things by varying your methods.

My wife complained about the way i made steak beccause she wouldnt eat it right away and it would get cold. So i started searing the shit out of it and then letting it rest in a very rare state and then flashing it when she was finally ready (had her plate ready). That was a game changer.

I never would have figured out some of my best cooking methods without some of the shitty grills i had to use at other's places or a woman bitching at me about things that shouldn't matter
