pfffffffft........clean is clean. I don't get it.
Nope Clean is not clean. Just like you look for those special tones in the overdrive/distorted channels, My Mesa Mk III has clean but is not like the "Clean" on the 20th A. Xtc. or the clean Of the Shiva. People search for that "Clean Tone" like you do for perfect driven tone. Thats why you hear people comparing amps to the Fender Twin, Deluxe, Bassman or a JC120 or Fishman.

To me Clean is one of those things that will make or break an amp for me. I guess that is why I like the 20th X with 6L6 tubes.

OK. Since I don't play anything clean, it is meaningless. Rolling back the guitar volume is clean enough for me.

Channel 2 is fantastic!
and thats with the gain at like 11 oclock, its gets so nasty..the marshall modder guys will shit their pants.

Sounds close enough to do the job. For instance, if I want to play "Whole Lotta Rosie" on Ch. 2, followed by "The Pot" on Ch. 3, followed by "Duality" on Ch. 4......or similar - without any pedals, the Hagen is the amp to do it with. Each channel sounds that distinct.

The clean sounded great. I really didn't care for any of the other channels at all. :aww:

I agree. They are in no way bad, but nothing numerous other amps can't do. I'm not being a downer, but CH2 has nothing on a Marshall.......much less a decent mod. Doesn't have that raunchy "KERRRRANG". Too processed IMO.

Thanks for the clip Reza.

I'd love to hear this amp with a second mic complementing the sm57 (I don't like how 57 sound by themselves on amp.... that or he 57 with some ambience room mic (camera mic could be). But again, we can't ask for more from you, you did a GREAT job.

I like how they all sound honestly....but I feel the GEM in this amp as with the vh4 lies in Channel 2........ that sounds so sick.....

Hey Steve, I totally respect your opinion on the clean channel preference....you just don't have a use for it, but a lot of us LOVE a nice clean channel.... I for one live 70% of the time on the clean channel.....and a high gainer with a NICE clean channel can be a KILLER rig.

check out this guy..... 3 piece band, it's a jazz fussion bluesy thing, and the singer/guitarist is playing an Anderson with a VH4 and he's getting some SICK SICK SICK channel 2 gain tones and clean tones at the end.....

this video right here is MY FAVORITE VH4 video out there on youtube land.....and it's because if the clean channel part at the end.

the VERY tasty playing helps a lot too.

too processed? .its a clip on the internet, Get in a room with one and then let me know...
because from where I am standing , there is no processed happening dude.

I'm just giving my opinion. I'm sure it's a great amp. But that "kerrrang" I referred to still comes across in most Internet clips of Marshally amps. No doubt it does high gain great, but I don't think any Marshall modders will be "shitting their pants". Sorry if I come across as an ass.....just giving my opinion.

Im going to grab a 421 from a buddy of mine and do another vid with a strat :)

that's very cool. I thing it'll REALLY help people get a clearer idea of how the amp sounds in person. the 57 is just too shrill specially on high gainers. I've NEVER liked the way my vh4 sounds with a 57 alone.....

can't wait to hear clips with the strat on a more "bluesy" note :D

nah man, nothing else can be asked of you, you've done a fantastic job. simply play some "bluesy ala Clapton" thing when you're demoing the clean channel with the strat....a little tiny bit, nothing major for us "softies" out here :)

Hey Reza, let me ask you..... do you feel the Hagen is a more "metal" amp than the vh4? because I for one think the VH4 is a VERY balanced amp..... for example channel 1 and channel 2 are very clean/bluesy/classic rock oriented..... even chanel 3 with low output pickups is very rockish instead of METAL.... you have to throw high output pups and turn up the gain a bit to get it cooking into the hard rockish metal world...... so far I feel this amp is a more "hard rock metal oriented"... is that true? or is it just that you new owners are dialing in hard rockish metal tones mostly?

what does the amp breathe?

It's hard to say, the clean channel is way spongier and bouncier than the vh4, I felt like the clean on the vh4 was a metal bands clean sound, whereas the Hagen has a more universal kind of vibe, you can play Hendrix runs, or like tone monster did in his clips, some RHCP under the bridge.

Channel 2 can definitely just be a rock blues channel all to itself, especially if you want smoky tones at low gain and big crunch at high gain settings, the vh4 channel 2 had much less range in the gain knob.

Channel 3 can do vh4 channel 3 but it can also go to a VERY metal place.
Same thing for channel 4 of Hagen...

On the whole I think you can dial in alot of colors with the amp, and those include blues/clean, rock drive etc.

But I think it really shines as a high gain amp.

If you want a more bluesy amp, get a super reverb with a tube screamer...

Nice to hear man....... I'm not really looking to make it sound like a blues machine..not at all, I was just curious.

Can't hear the amp throught the goop.
Did you read the title of the thread at ALL?
Sure just wondered why you put such a FX ridden demo up when people want to hear the new amp. I noticed you've since put a dryer vid up. Nice playing, good for metal, not my thing though, too sterile.

From what I have heard I like this amp and the Einy. Im still weighing in on the Einstein but I think with a Strat going through the Hag it will level them both off for me. Thanks for the clips

Great clip bro. Welcome to the Internet. Keep the delay bro it sounds nice.

But could you use an SM57 circa 1983 three inches from the bottom right speaker directly pointed at the cone using a red xlr cable from the same era. Guitar volume at 8 with tone at 10. While eating an In/Out burger in your right hand while doing pull offs in E locrian. It's the only way I'm going to hear the true nuances of the amp. Oh ya and only ketchup, mustard and pickles on the burger otherwise the tone will be compromised.

Lol

You did a great job bro. Thanks for taking the time to do it. It ain't easy.

This

Thanks REZA and DIEZEL!

What on earth are people complaining about? That sounds absolutely killer and certainly doesn't obstruct the true character of the amp. Honestly, somebody takes the time to put clips up then they get castigated for using effects? Pathetic.

Cheers Reza, sounds phenomenal. I wish I had one...I'd make a Herbert / VH4 / Hagen comparison video!

First off, not that there's an implied honeymoon phase with this thing, but to me, it really sounds nice. What I like about it is it sounds vastly different than a lot of other amps out there today. Always a PLUS in my books. I suppose if Peter wanted to create a 'modded Marshall' sound, he'd go on and create one - hell, this was his pedigree back in the day, it's not as though he's attempting to recapture the Marshall era sound, he's been there, done that. Diezel said it's time to move FORWARD, and their amps prove this. For anyone wanting an authentic KERRANG amp, buy an old Plexi or scour the classifieds for a used modded Marshall. Simple.

As for Reza's post - FX and all, I can say without a doubt this has been the BEST video and audio example to date. I mean shit, we had blurry, fuzzy, iPhone footage from messe, no? And Niilz did a good job for sure, but wasn't as methodical going from channel to channel as Reza's post. And let's not forget, truly, as players, we could all spend and SHOULD spend about 1 hour on EACH channel of a new amp to truly get a sense of what it's capable of. Then there's low, medium and high volume environments. Then there's room dynamics. Then there's the fact there are a lot of armchair critics here who've never posted one lousy clip going on about the inherent sonic qualities of an amp and giving their  or  based on an internet clip.

C'mon, it's a new amp, it comes from a reputable source, and the 2nd person to get one in the USofA managed to throw down 6+ minutes of a sweetass video for all of us wanting to know. That alone gets my 2 thumbs up of approval, and honestly, I think the thing kills from 1 to 4, period.

Peace,
Mo
