I had a VH4 a while back and couldn't sell it fast enough, tbh.

If that's true, you probably won't love a 2204.

Yea, I've gotten rid of the JCM800 choice. It's down to Uber, Herbert, and POSSIBLY a Stein+ *gasp*

Oh, and I have access to a Mak-2 (dorado)

What on earth is a Stein+?

Well, then it it boils down whether you like weird/non-traditional tube breakup of Herbert or Uberschall saturation. For me Herbert is a winner & much less expensive for what it does. That said I use Uberschall frighteningly often, especially when I mix it with another amp; once I was about to sell it after 2 years of owning it, because Herbert can be dialed very close, but I'm so glad I didn't. Nothing comes close to the big fat chunk of gain Uberschall has.

im goinign herbie, im always pleased with mine, its the only amp i predict owning for a long time.
peace

I went outta left field and got a Mako Mak-2 (Dorado based)
