Use v30s or T75s with it. The ppc will be great.

It doesn't sound good with most greenback variations, and even less good with eminence or weber or something like that, unless its the DV77 or something that is actually tuned for that style of music.
Right up my alley.. 😍 I have a 1980s 1960B with 75s an early 2000s backloaded Bogner uberkab & the ppc.. so it should do the trick with either of those. I’ll give it a go for sure.

Just based on demos I liked the SSS the most. Kind of a clean sustain that sounds good to my ears but who knows once I plug in. I gotta really good tech that will build me whatever I want for the cost of the kit plus about $500. I just don't have any idea of what that should be. Based on my finances I got plenty of time to think it over, LOL.

That's an incredibly generous offer of him, I would probably charge someone twice that to build a ceriatone kit. I bought and built the Hiwatt one and I would 100% do another, wish I never got rid of the one i built. That amp was amazing. They have really decent quality parts, and the DR103 I got was literally indistinguishable from a healthy vintage one.

Just based on the type of tones that you like, I think the dumbles would be up your alley, but I would wanna try some brownface era fenders and a HPTT as well. Both of those styles of amp absolutely kill for blues tones.

Yep those are perfect! It's just one of those amps that seems like it was designed around those particular speakers. It makes sense, because they are the most popular/common for the genre.

He's retired military army radio repair man. Knows his stuff, just does it on the side. I never bring him PCB junk to deal with and I always pull the chassis out the cab so he ain't gotta fool with that either. An SSS might cost me a few more bucks cause of the complexity but I know he'd rather deal with building something from scratch for me than fixing some dude's beat Hot Rod deluxe who leaves it sit for a month without paying the bill LOL. Guy has literally given me the rockstar treatment when I was in a bind, rebuilt and modded both of my Twins pretty much top to bottom. Wouldn't touch my old Gibson Maestro though, lol, can't blame him. Those things are like bird's nests inside.

I've tried the '57 HPTT at volume...that is one badass amp. I've thought about that one many times. Might be a good choice vs a SSS....tough call without trying an SSS in person.

What you should do, is keep an eye out for anything dumble-y at guitar centers and pawn shops and music stores. If you find a two rock, amplified nation, fuchs, whatever, just keep plugging in and trying them out and try to get a feel for em.

If you gel with it, lots of people swear by em obviously

A HPTT is way more my speed, but at least you have a base and know what those do - can't make a decision like that, with that type of money, without a bunch of research, and weighing some options.

Another amp i would give a chance, if you get a shot, is a matchless chief/chieftan and clubman. They all are el34 based and probably vibe way closer to what you're used to

The lack of 4 ohm options turns me off about Orange. I have a bunch of 8 ohm cabs, and I'm not a "half stack" kinda guy.

I always thought that was weird, but I don't think Orange has any 4 ohm cabs, so I wonder if that's one of the reasons?
