I'm selling a guitar and got this message from a member on thegearpage. The thing that threw up flags is that they've been a member since 2012 but have zero posts. They do have one positive feedback for a deal though. What do u think?

"I'm a dealer in ******. If you can send me a Paypal invoice I would be willing to purchase this. Please send an invoice to ********.

please make sure it is an invoice and not just a money request. also, please put the item in the item title and copy the condition from your add."

I removed any personal info from the message to protect the individual. If they had any kind of posting history I wouldn't be so hesitant.

I wouldn't mess with that.

Remember as a seller you are the victim when it comes to paypal.

You need to be invoiced in order to take advantage of any PayPal credit 0% interest offers when buying from a seller. Plus if he's a dealer he will need an invoice for records.

Preceded with caution and just ask questions. I can usually tell fro, the first message whether or not someone is going to be an actual buyer or flake.

It's not so much that he asked for an invoice. It's more that he doesn't have a single post in 4 yrs. But who knows. Maybe I'll voice my concern to him and see what he says.

Ask for his shop phone number, look up the info, and talk to the guy on the phone.

As long as his Paypal info looks legit and its going to his listed Address, I would think it would be fine. I only signed up here just because I wanted to buy something in the Classifieds , before that I was just a lurker.

I would send an invoice. I always use this option and list what it is for and the condition. It's more professional. No big deal. If he pays you, what do you care? A sale is a sale. Send invoice, he pays, you ship to his confirmed adress. Nothing to lose and all to gain. No flags thrown up to me. Seems completely legit.

Will if they mentioned anything about them beikngmout if town and their shippers coming to pick it up... The. That's another story and one I've passed on many times.. Do some digging, but in the end go with your gut.

Does post count at TGP include posts in the trade forums? Maybe he's only been active in the trade forums for the past 4 years.

He gave me his shop name and link to website and eBay account. Guess he just looks through classifieds.

I've been a member of tgp for 10 years and probably have 15 posts. I used to go there to buy & sell. Also, I've done the paypal invoice many times. Once you talk with him you will probably feel more comfortable about this.
