Donn Landee RIP

May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing.
 
Don was a part of a creating process that gave people great enjoyment and lasting memories during his lifetime, can't do any better than that. RIP.
 
Listen to the board recordings of Van Halen back then, or hell the room mics from the early albums and you realize what a job he did. Van Halen didn't sound like Van Halen until he did his thing.

I wouldn't go so far to say they didn't sound great live on the 78 79 tour. Yes, I agree there were some enhancements of Templeman and Landee's input and engineering skills that did create the final recorded product of VH1 and later albums, but he also used alot of the same techniques with other bands he recorded as well. I think Mentoneman has mentioned numerous times that Landee, Templeman and Ed used to call what they did to Ed's guitar tones as JAPE.
 
I read the rare interview documented on TapeOp yesterday night after the sad news, very good read.
