Not that any of this matters at this point but...

Howdy Mr. Suhr! I talked with you over email many years ago (and on TGP) and I'm glad you decided to pop into Rig-Talk! I hope you stop by more often! It's great to have experts like you, Peter Diezel, Bruce Egnater, etc... on the board.

Chris

EDIT - Oh yeah, thanks for clearing all of that up! I never knew the history.

Hey Nice Road King Classic !

Does that mean I get my own section ??? :) :D

I vote yes!!!

Welcome aboard Señor Suhr. Nice to have you here.

Chris, have you ever heard Doug's first band, Lion?

Eh, not really. I mean, I know about them and have seen a video or two on YouTube with Doug playing Jacksons, but that's about it. I do have two Burning Rain CDs, the Dio CD, and the new Whitesnake CD (that I only listened to once), but none of his other stuff. I just like him best on that instructional video clip I posted above. I like that style.

Thats cool!

Well there's a bunch of stuff that you might like of his that you havent heard. I think you would dig the Lion stuff, and the album he recorded when he was in Hurricane was cool too. Slave To The Thrill was the name of the CD. His tone isnt that killer on that CD, but the playing sure is!! The album he did with House Of Lords was cool too.. He was kinda the hired gun in that band though rather than an actual member.

I saw Doug with House Of Lords back in the early 90's...I think...man it was so long ago...they opened for Nelson

Remember those guys :hys:

Anyways, Brett Garsed was with Nelson at that time. So both Brett and Doug got to do some soloing mid set. Back then Doug was playing some custom Jacksons that changed colour at different angles. It was pretty cool for a free concert. The place was packed with jail bait girls.

Cheers,
Mike

Welcome aboard John. Just like Chris said, It's great to get experts in here. We have had Fortin, Friedman and now you.
I wanted to thank you and Chris for the updates on my SE+ and the EL34 conversion. That amp just kicks ass !

Thanks! It's actually a Road King Custom, but that was definitely close enough for me! :)

You must ride too, huh?

I've been riding since 1970
My Harleys were a DynaWide glide, then a RoadKing Classic with Big Bore and thunder Headers in 2004
I went back to my dirt riding roots and got off the streets, even though it was tempting again since one of my customers is Erik Buell, I do have a wife :aww:
My new ride is a Husky te610

The 78 is...I think....the one I did...It looks like John may have redone the other one but for the most part its the same stuff he's used for a while. Dougs tone..as well as most people...to me...is the way he plays...not anything John,me or anyone else does...we have done these mods for alot of people and Doug still stands out as a guy with great tone no matter what amp or mods he is useing. I think John would agree.

The new stuff...I think...its the mix and prodution...I heard the demos of this stuff and it did not sound this way.

Hope things are good with you John..see you at NAMM

Ditto!
Hey Mark! Yes! Doug today said he was switching between both our amps. He can not even remember what was what but said he needed different tones and levels for different songs.
His choice of amps and setups has not changed in years. His main setup is the Cameron and my Original amp (sometimes the reproduction from Martin), sometimes together sometimes switching between. I know he has been working on a new pedal this last tour with someone but I dont know if it is being used yet.
Other amps are in and out of the rig being used as backup only or for 1 or 2 tunes for flavor. His main group of amps as not changed.

Totally agree, Doug really hasnt changed his rig at all but in the audience you are hearing the sound man and the venue.
See you at Namm!

on a slightly off topic but still Whitesnake theme, I once did a show here in the UK where we brought in extra backline for a bigger venue. We just asked for Marshall 4x12 cabs and what turned up were Whitesnake Flight Cased Green 4x12s with Greenbacks, mine had "Mick Moody" on the case and the other guitarist had "Bernie Marsden".

I shit you not when we plugged into those cabs it was like being hit by a tank made of crunch and thunder, they just sounded epic

anyway back to the thread :D

That Husky is a nice off-roader, not real fond of the rear shock though (sach) ;)

Ok ... so I'm a noob if you will ... but until a year ago ... well I never really heard Doug Aldrich (heard of him) .... or Reb Beach of that matter.. I'm 27 and growing up all that I was into was old Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Megadeth. I love thrash. So not to long ago my dad, wife, and I went to Judas Priest and Whitesnake.

All I can say is

...........

Yea ... I made fun of going to Whitesnake before the show, but after ... well that was a different story. Doug Aldrich tone is what I've had stuck in my head since 10. I loved his tone. I'd KILL for that tone. My God that was amazeing. Anyways, Doug and Reb blew my mind and though I'm not unfimiliar with that era in guitar domination, I love Jake E. Lee and the first Skid Row always get's me smile'n, but Doug has now been moved to the top 10 all time in tone/performace/skill in my book.
