DSL vs Jubilee 2525? Why such a bug price difference?

Aren't the transformers in the Asian DSL stuff significantly less robust than what Marshall use for the UK stuff, though?

They feel like they're made of styrofoam. I replaced the OTs in a JCM2000 100w and a DSL 100H, added a choke to both. I A/B'ed them for weeks. The 100H won every single time. I don't know who makes the trannies in the Silver Jub RIs, probably Dagnall or Drake.

Thank you. That's the whole point. Let's not forget, the DSL is not only built in Vietnam, but they also use inferior components.

I think above poster is getting his panties in a wad, thinking his Asian DSL is getting bashed, and taking it personal. It's nothing personal, it's a fact. The Jube uses higher quality parts. The headshells on the DSLs are MDF, for starters. Transformers are lesser quality, tube sockets, wiring, should I go on?

I don't own the 100H anymore, not offended in the least. I just had too many amps, so I sold it. Though .... I do have a JCM2000 DSL50 repair project arriving tomorrow.

My 2555x has Dagnall

Ok, so as I'm sure you can tell from my gear list, I'm a big VH fan. Can the Jubilee get into VH territory?

Yes, but you can get there for less money with other Marshalls.

But, I get very close to that with my Chupacabra.

I believe you. So why do you want a Silver Jub? They're very cool amps. I just didn't hear anything there I couldn't get with my other Marshalls.
Then you need to try a Jubilee if you think the tone is similar. It's very different. I've had them all, NMV, 70s MV, all types of 800s and the Jubilee distortion is very different and unique. You may not like it as much as a typical Marshall but it is different. The low end is almost Modern heavy sounding/feeling, and just a nudge on the eq drastically changes the tone unlike a standard Marshall EQ which doesn't change too much unless you turn them way up/down. The clarity is better too, and a good vintage Marshall has great clarity. It's a little more hifi if you will.
You still may like an 800 over the Jubilee but you won't get a Jubilee tone from a 2203. Or a NMV.

I have a mini jubilee with the matching vertical 2/12 cabinet and its a great amp! I've used it for every gig I've had in the last two years. I also have a DSL40C with a creamback speaker in it, and that amp screams too. I honestly like them about the same. They're a little different, but both great amps. The new DSL40CR sounds a little better, as Marshall has tweaked the EQ a little. I want to get the DSL20HR to bring to gigs as a backup to the jub. Bang for your buck, that head is hard to beat.

Well, it started with wanting to get a lower wattage head. I've been looking at the Ceriatone SOY, Peavey 6505 mini head, Peavey Classic mini head. A few others. Then, looking through various videos has lead me to the 2525.

DUDE...i've been chasing the same EXACT thing lately. I think i've watched every video out there on DSL's and 6505mh. I saw a video of some dude name johnnyeggz or something that modd'd his dsl15h..sounded pretty ballsy. but yea..i'm with ya. i've even looked at the mini-jube...which are cool amps btw.

I actually saw a video this week of a guy going through the 6505mh...and honestly it sounded really good. and given all the options for the $$....kinda hard to beat.

let me know what you're thinking...i'd love to know of any demo vid or anything you may have seen of the small head/combos that you thought were good.

The volume difference between a 20w amp and your 40/50w amps would be pretty minimal.

I too am an EdHead. I have a Friedman Smallbox combo and a 2525C. Both have enough low end for whatever it is you want to do. The Friedman is more refined and the two channels work perfectly together. It's hard to beat for early VH sound. The 2525c can keep up, though. It's everything the guys here have already said. Articulate/gain structure/feel. The EQ is very active, meaning there's a ton of tones with just little tweaks. It's is different than most Marshall's yet the same. Hard to explain. Definitely has it's own thing that only a Jub can do. The 2525c is more of a one trick pony though. You get one amazing sound and that's it. The channel switching works...but it's suspect on one channel once you dial in the other. Depending on what your needs are, it's something to keep in mind. The 25/5 watt switch works really well for quieting things down when needed. As with any Marshall...once you get enough volume to move air...it's magical. Addictive. The only issue some may have with the 2525c is there's a sweet spot with the amp...then you lose headroom. Lastly...having seen/heard most of the demo's out there, the Jub sounds much better in person.

If it's VH you're really trying to get, you may be better off with the 5150 III LBX2. Save money and have more channels at your disposal.

Here's my combo with a PRS Silver Sky:

Well, my Chupacabra does the VH thing great. So, that's not really why I'm looking into the 2525 head. I'm just looking for a great sounding amp that'll get a different flavor than my Chupa and my DSL. I've got an offer for the 2525 head for $950, so I'm really contemplating if I should pull the trigger.

I really enjoyed my old DSL 50 but it never made me stop and say "damn that sounds good" like the 2525 does. The DSL is probably more versatile but the 2525 really has something special. There are deals out there on them if you're patient. Mine was around $900 shipped from Reverb.
