This clip is one of the reasons i decided to try out the JB in my Les Paul, i asked Doug recently and he said it's a JB in his black Les Paul. That was with a CCV-100, and i use my 'Cali Mod' Marshall JMP which isn't far off that tone anyway :)

A JB wouldn't be my first choice for a Les Paul.

JB was my first choice for my LP... It's a great pickup.

Had an old (early 80's) JB in my LPC and loved it. Many pickup swaps later I tried a new JB and it sounded like ass...not sure if it has anything to do with age but the old one was much smoother and fuller sounding whereas the new one was harsh and thin.

Cack... The one i bought is a new one haha   Well hopefully it sounds good. If not, i can always look out for an older one on eBay!

I have a JB in my Custom 22 (mahogany\maple set neck stoptail) and it sounds killer. I will say though I used to think it was too bright until I put in a 250k volume pot. I read that those pickups were designed around a 250k pot and it sounds amazing to my ears with it. Still plenty of bite but very musical this way.

Makes sense, since the "testing" guitar that Seymour used was most likely his "Tele-Gib" hot rodded Telecaster with 2 buckers.

I actually read that is what Seymour himself still uses with a 250k pot.

come on, you're in uk
find yourself a used bare knuckle cold sweat for cheap :D
it's one of the best matches for big sounding les pauls I've ever heard
bright, crunchy and clear, while still quite punchy and cleans up really well for a ceramic

Bareknuckle pickups for cheap... That's gotta be a typo right? :D

If i was spending £££ i'd just buy another Suhr Aldrich and call it a day :D

you can find used BKP humbuckers for 50-60 quids any day

right now there's a cold sweat set in aged nickel covers for 130 pounds, which is still very reasonable for a custom covered set

I've got a Brian Moore I2, which is a 24.75" Les Paul type set neck mahogany guitar.

I run a 333K resistor from the hot output of the JB to ground, which makes the overall load 142K with two 500K pots.

the pickup sees a load very similar to two 250K's, and keeps the neck AIIP open and airy with that 250K load.

Anderson calls this "Vintage Voicing." Makes the bridge split single toanz moar meaty too. :)

Glad to see someone else is using this trick. I put a 2M on my 500k for a load of 400k and I thought it did a good job focusing the mids without changing the tone too much.

I find the JB to be a very dark pickup, it is great for leads but not rhythms IMO.

I agree unless it's just a bright guitar from the get go. I'm used to low output vintage pickups so that tends to make everything I try sound a bit duller.
