Ed doing Jimmy better than Jimmy.

I'll preface this by saying I am a moderate EVH fan.

This is not Eddie doing Jimmy better than Jimmy though. Frankly it sounds like a VH cover band making a lame attempt at a Zeppelin tune. It doesn't even sound like Eddie doing Eddie better than Eddie.
100% agree with your post.

EVH could never play like Page did and vice versa. Plus...The Rover is a very special song that has to be played exactly as Page wrote/played it.

This reinforces for me why I fucking hate Van Halen. Eddie overplays everything and ruins the groove. David Lee Roth meanwhile sounds fucking horrible everytime he opens his mouth.

I couldn't butcher that any worse
And one of my fav zep tunes and one of the first i learned.

Mr Eddie shut off all the damn chorus and flanger shit and whatever else you have barking

Edward Van Halen sounds like dogshit in that clip.
i never thought he sounded good after VH1
That Album i liked when it first came out. it was something new

i saw them once at the Nassau Coliseum around 1992-93ish. Alice in Chains opened.
I thought they were OK but then again I'm not into all the shit he does

gimme Freddy King and Otis all day long

I caught them when they opened for Heart. I'd never heard of him. The first time he did a dive bomb I chuckled inside knowing he'd be SO out of tune. Gawd damn! He wasn't!!! Lol.

AIC was definitely the highlight of that tour. Poundcake is for fags.

Definitely not better than Jimmy Page.

Its sounds like Eddie.
No shit! Stop the presses….Who’d you think it was gonna sound like? Perhaps an unpopular opinion on this forum that I thought was pro-EVH, but…EVH was 100x the musician and guitar player that Page was. John Paul Jones wrote half the riffs and didn’t really do anything revolutionary. Clapton played the blues far better than he did, and JPJ and Bonham carried him. Page was sloppy. Ed would have blown him right off the stage, the same way VH blew sabbath away every night on their first tour.

Musicians don't compete like gladiators and get graded like eggs. That's just juvenile.

I agree Ed's rhythm playing had SERIOUS swing, his solos were crap as they were basically a bag of good sounding tricks and not really melodic. He had moments of melody but overall he is NOT a melodic soloist.

Page had timing like no other player on earth. He is so out at times but he's in. He could be doing crazy shit but he always knew where the 1 and 3 were like no other and he'd land where you're supposed to. His live sound and approach were SHIT but he was from a different time.

Page was a true overall musician who wrote the entire track whereas Ed wasn't as complete as Page. Page IS a SERIOUS and excellent composer.

You go listen to Physical Grafitti from start to finish, and I'm sorry, because you'd say who the fuck was EVH. Have a listen to the solo in Since I've Been Loving You. Have a listen to his rhythm swing and clock on Celebration Day.

IF you like Ed better that's great but he was never a threat to Page as a player and musician. Page's music will live on and on whereas Van Halen's has already faded...A LOT.
