Ed doing Jimmy better than Jimmy.

The argument was that Ed did Jimmys own stuff better than he did, one year after it was recorded. The obverse cannot be said. Ed also did Clapton note for note. To say someone can’t play jazz, is retarded. It’s not some mystical cryptic music. It’s connecting chords with single note lines, something Ed did frequently if not ad nauseum. I wonder what he was doing when he was playing jamming with jazz fusionistas Allen Holdsworth or Jeff Berlin???

Think outside the box for minute. Make an objective argument.
He weren't no jazzer anymore than Santana was for making some recordings with McLaughlin.

Define jazz.
First you compared him to Parker and Coltrane, jazz. Be real, the dude ain't gonna stick Donna Lee changes at 220bpm or Cherokee at 300. Then you said he recorded with some fusion guitarists, but fusion isn't traditional jazz. Is Santana a jazz guitarist now too since he played with fusion guys? No.

You said Ed's dad played jazz therefore Ed can too. My dad did taxes I'm offering a discount on my work this fiscal year.

Not sure you know what you’re talking about.
You make awful arguments. They lack intelligence.

Ed isn't on record playing anything resembling Coltrane or Parker. I really doubt he could play leads over I got rhythm changes. It's on you to prove otherwise and no recordings like that exist that I am aware of.

Yeah you’re right… that’s a tough piece. All 6-2-5-1s. The most common chord progression in jazz and pop.

I Got Rhythm - George Gershwin
C Am Dm G7
I got rhythm,
C Am Dm G7
I got music
C Am Dm G7
I got my man,

A couple of weeks ago I decoded Jumps 2nd keyboard solo, and I can assure that the way EVH arpeggiates his tapping runs on guitar as well as keyboards is every bit on the same level stylistically as Bird and Coltrane. It’s basically a sax piece.

My father was a plumber.
I’m not a plumber either but I can do a hell of a lot of plumbing, on top of many other things I learned from my father… ever heard of OJT? 99% of jazz is actually rhythm, not soloing. Do you think maybe Ed was ever holding down rhythm while his old man was blowing? Sure sounded like it on a Big Bad Bill… a jazz standard on a VH record. What are the odds.

Notes are notes. Chords work the same in all music.

You omitted the B section there to help suit your argument. "easy". Let's see your solo then easy.

I guess you think outlining chords with root-3-5 is jazz soloing but it's not. You're making it something it isn't instead of enjoying it for what it is.

You’re way over complicating this. It’s not that hard. And it definitely wasn’t for Ed. Im only reasoning this out.
Ad hominem attacks on me… “let’s see you do it” signal defeat when you actually have no argument. It’s the beginning of a temper tantrum. So walk bitch before I start really cutting.

Yes, Van Halen Jump is now jazz music on level with Parker, lol, I got your message. It's an extremely unrealistic viewpoint you've chosen to take but I will let you choose to take it in peace.

It’s not just my opinion. In Ted Templetons book, Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer’s Life in Music. Ted drawing on his own jazz background, ranked Eddie’s speed, accuracy, melodic inventiveness, and note choice alongside Charlie Parker and pianist Art Tatum as the peak of instrumental virtuosity he had encountered—calling Eddie essentially “the third coming” after Bird and Tatum. He described Eddie’s approach and solos in terms reminiscent of Parker (and sometimes Dizzy Gillespie), emphasizing melodic brilliance.

Never cared for EVH or Van Halen in general. How does billy squiers career go down the shitter when this is infinitely gayer than rock me tonight lol.
