When page was on the heroin in his later years, his playing fell off quite a bit imho.
Not to the chuggers. Saw one in GC going at it yesterday. He has to have the 6505 cranked upYou could say that vs just about any artist though.![]()
BULLSHIT!!!!Musicians don't compete like gladiators and get graded like eggs. That's just juvenile.
Bonham and JPJ held that band together live while Page experimented live or was just too fucked up to play well. Page wrote some serious riffs and songs as a whole that have stood the test of time, like Hendrix, VH....Page was sloppy live at the end. So was Eddie though. I wouldn't say Eddie was a better musician at at all, though a case might be made that he was a better guitarist. Certainly not a better songwriter or arranger. And dude, I'm a pretty big EVH fan. What I'm not a fan of is any VH song after 1984.
And JPJ is a serious bad ass, but he didn't write all the riffs. He wrote a few of the bigger ones. Anyone who says Page didn't write a bunch of amazing songs has seriously shitty taste in music.
Lets see eddie do Zep III.Let’s see Jimmy play anything by VH…
Very juvenile answer.BULLSHIT!!!!
There's a video somewhere that I've seen but can't find at the moment. Eddie's trying to play over some basic changes, he's jamming on a tune, and he sounds like pure beginner. Clams all over the place. He even gives a "oh shit" grin.Let’s see Jimmy play anything by VH…
Very juvenile answer.
Really ? Ever heard of battle of the bands???
Life is a competition. The entire 1980s was about who was the baddest shredder… wake the fuck up. Did you forget history. Guitar playing is an extension of a ‘whose dick is bigger?!’ contest.

Let's see VH trying to play jazz.
Being able to play a 2-5-1 doesn't put you anywhere in the realm of Parker or Coltrane, lol.You don’t think Ed could play a 2-5-1, and all this time he’s been compared stylistically to Charlie Parker and Coltrane???

You don’t think the son of a jazz musician could play jazz???

Are you saying Eddie Van Halen couldn’t play a fucking triad??? Listen to the solo in Big Fat Money… 100% jazz saxline.
You’re statement is just plain ignorant.

Oh my young friend, I never said people don't try to compete musically. I just said it's a stupid concept and practice. Juvenile I think.
Because Neil Young can't shred does that make him a shitty musician? STRAW-MAN John Lennon can't blow over the changes to Giant Steps. Does he suck? STRAW-MAN Some kid in Brazil plays Flight of the Bumble Bee at 350 bpm...does that make him the best ever???? STRAW-MAN
Those awards are based on sales. Those awards exist primarily to self advertise.“Best” never was part of the argument.
Better was the argument. Is juvenile, I agree. Most men are but nevertheless the the fact remains. Everyone who is anyone in the music industry is competing to be heard. They even give awards for it…VMA’s, Grammys…etc.
Consider broadening your viewpoint.
The argument was that Ed did Jimmys own stuff better than he did, one year after it was recorded. The obverse cannot be said. Ed also did Clapton note for note. To say someone can’t play jazz, is retarded. It’s not some mystical cryptic music. It’s connecting chords with single note lines, something Ed did frequently if not ad nauseum. I wonder what he was doing when he was playing jamming with jazz fusionistas Allen Holdsworth or Jeff Berlin???Those awards are based on sales. Those awards exist primarily to self advertise.
When I was 10 we'd argue about who was the fastest guitar player. Johnny WInter? Alvin Lee? Did it matter?
I think John Lee Hooker is a great musician. DItto Bo DIddly. Certainly not shredders.
If you tell me you like EVH more than Jimmy Page, I think that's fine. I won't argue with your opinions and taste because I have my own.
That's cool. Tell us some stories about Seymour Duncan!Relax fella...I used to be good friends with Seymour Duncan and he would tell you Ed was NOT musically literate.
He said "Ed could play Ed but nothing much else".
Yes, Ed was a unique force to be reckoned with and an enormous influence.
I think the problem with this thread and the negativity is you need to change the title as it's just not true.
"Ed doing Jimmy better than Jimmy."
Maybe..."Ed Does Zep's Rover the Ed Way"
If history is any indication, there was gay anal rape involved. That's cool. Tell us some stories about Seymour Duncan!
A seriously regular guy...not a great player...he worshipped Jeff Beck...was ALWAYS interested in new pick-up ideas and we would talk for many hrs about possibilities and real differences. He made me a set of pickups that had an output for each magnet/string back in 1983. Nice idea but way too cumbersome as we both learned. Hey, it was the 80s and anything went! That's cool. Tell us some stories about Seymour Duncan!
You're recycling the same shit. I've made my arguments. The argument was that Ed did Jimmys own stuff better than he did, one year after it was recorded. The obverse cannot be said. Think outside the box for minute. Make an objective argument.
So wait- you didn't bend him over and fuck his hairy ass?I don't want to say much else as we're on the net and it's public...as you're aware.
