Hey guys,
Elan Memran here, the original owner and designer of MetalHead Electronics.
Back in the late '80s and early '90s, I was modifying Marshall amps out of my shop in North Hollywood, California. Over the years, my modifications have been used by guitarists including Dino Cazares of Fear Factory, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, Ernie C of Body Count, and many others.
I've been reading some of the discussions here about my old modifications, so I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm back doing my original MetalHead Electronics Marshall mods again.
While going through my original schematics and notes from the modification I did for Dino Cazares, I discovered something interesting.
I realized that I had made an accidental mistake in the circuit back then.
The funny thing is, that mistake turned out to be part of what made his amplifier sound the way it did.
I've figured out exactly what happened, and I can reproduce that same unique modification again.
Of course, Dino's guitar, pickups, speaker cabinet, and especially his playing were all part of his sound. I'm not claiming that modifying your Marshall will automatically make you sound exactly like Dino.
What I can reproduce is the actual amplifier modification I originally did for him, including that accidental circuit difference.
I'm also bringing back my original high-gain, noise reduction, bass boost, and active tube effects loop modifications.
I'd love to hear from anyone who still owns one of my original modified Marshalls. I'm also happy to answer questions about the old mods and share some stories from those days.
It's good to be back!
