Gig went really well!
I practiced my set at the park twice on Saturday, ate lunch, and then took a nice nap. I got to the venue, which is a small bar, about half an hour early. There were only about a dozen people there and a handful of them were the band I was opening for and their guests. A few of my friends came and by the time I started, I think there were maybe 25-30 people total. I played 6 songs and surprised myself by playing better than expected; the practice had paid off.
I exchanged info with the bassist of the band who mentioned some other opportunity to play at the same venue in the future, so here's to hoping I get another gig!
(headstock tuner AND coily cable hahahaha)

Congrats. Now you just need to build an acoustic pedalboard with a tuner, preamp, maybe a chorus, and an IR pedal for that sweet miced up tone!

I actually thought about this prior to the gig and contemplated bringing my little headrush flex prime to run an acoustic patch. But I’ve never used the unit and dialing in a patch didn’t seem like good use of my time, so straight into the PA I went.
I actually have no idea how it sounded lol. We didn’t really do sound check.
I’ll also go on record saying that while I own a lot of pedals, I seldom use them. I get lost stomping on shit and it doesn’t appeal to me. I’m considering removing both the delay pedal (never use in band) and my drive pedal (idk how to use a drive pedal when I’m using amp distortion) from the band board so that it’s just a tuner and (bro you’ll fucking love this) a phaser, which I use for about 12 seconds in one song lol.
The thought of an IR pedal or a DI box does intrigue me though. Talk to me about those.

I use more utility effects than actual effects. A tuner don't make sound. A compressor is always on. A preamp dials in the sound. The IR turns a piezo sound into a microphone and room sound. I would even use a chorus always on for my acoustic stuff, just set to be subtle. The chorus adds a little thickness and shimmer, but if you notice it it's too much. On guitar, my Echoplex style boost is always on, just set to be suble. It's like you don't notice when you kick it on, but you miss it when you kick it off. I set up my cleans to stay mostly clean with the boost and just play soft when I want it chimey.

6/5/26 Update:
My gig is tomorrow. I've worked out my set list and I've recorded and released an EP in preparation. I did the distribution for it kind of hastily, so I'm not sure if it's on all of the platforms just yet, but it's on Tidal, Spotify, and Apple Music for now.
I used DistroKid and was kind of confused about some of the process and I'm hoping that I can work out whatever kinks still need to be ironed out. For now, I'm really pleased with how the EP came out and I'm super excited to perform tomorrow.
In preparation, I plugged my acoustic into an amp today and found out that I needed to replace the battery for my pickup, which led to cleaning the terminals, but I'm ready!
Oh and I'll be using a headstock tuner

I performed an original at a really small open mic a couple of weekends ago. Just me and an acoustic guitar on stage was insanely nerve-racking, but I got through it with minimal mistakes and some dignity (my pants are olive?).
One of the other performers then asked me to fill a 30 minute time slot opening for his band at a bar in June, playing original music. That's a dream come true, so wish me fucking luck.
(I know this isn't heavy gain amp talk, but I do a lot of guitar work outside of my punk/metal band)
Nothing wrong with a headstock tuner. Fuck all of the naysayers!

I wrote out a whole post dissecting why I don't use effects much, but it got lengthy and very annoying. I appreciate you writing this out and I don't even disagree with the sentiment about that little extra ooomph that pushes you over the edge. To me that's never been sonic-related. What keeps me playing is what I'm doing on the guitar, not the sound that's being produced by the amp or pedals. I'll try to add an extra note for flare in a lick, or I'll take a riff that I think is cool, but contrived, and try to re-imagine it in a different time signature or across different strings so that the fingering is different.
So there, you still get a lengthy and rather annoying post lol.
