Electric shock from my speaker outs!

Just got a nasty shock from the speaker outs of my Mesa Dual Recto.

Setup was this: Recto Head > THD Hot Plate > two 2x12 cabs (ie one amp in, two cabs out from the hot plate, 3 speaker cables in total).

Sounded like one of the cabs was out of phase which, having just repaired a speaker cable I figured was caused by the+/- being accidentally swapped at one of the jack plugs. In order to test this I put the suspect cable between amp and hotplate and the two known good cables from the HP to each cab. Speakers now in phase indicating that cable was indeed wired wrong.

I proceeded to pull one of the speaker out cables from the Hot Plate (going to one of the cabs) with my right hand while holding my guitar in my left hand. ZAPP!! Got a nasty shock where my forearm was resting on the metal case of the Hot Plate as I reached over and pulled out one of the good speaker cables.

It felt a lot like a 240V shock I've had before.

Can someone confirm if this is expected given how I had things hooked up or might I have a problem with the amp? I'm just a bit surprised this is possible given I wasn't actually inside the amp but just pulling speaker cables.

Don't mess with it. Take it to a qualified shop. Getting shocked is not to be expected.

You may also want to just buy speaker cables.

there aren't any round these parts.

I'd imagine current output is highish but voltage low from the speaker outs. Wondering if it shorted on the case and through me because I was holding the guitar (which was plugged in the amp)?
