You do you, but I couldn’t care less about someone”s sexuality. Music that resonates is awesome. I couldn’t care less about who’s bedding who…
Obviously Bernie Taupin cared, hence the split. But they made some great music together, bummer that it fell apart.

Normally I'd have moved this to the main sub-forum, in case anyone asks, but it quickly veered into OTC territory. :dunno:

Elton is <gasp> gay. How could it not? 😆

I still think their body of work eclipses Lennon/McCartney; in volume, if not overall impact. Part of that is timing; the world was primed for the Beatles. IMO the John/Taupin catalog far surpasses in terms of depth. But it’s all subjective, and most of both catalogs are great. Personal favorites: My Father’s Gun and Madman Across the Water. Plus, I’ve always been intrigued by the writing style and how songs came together. “Hey, Elton, here’s a bunch of lyrics- have at it”.😀

I enjoy the music of both, but it's Lennon and McCartney by a mile if you ask me. Nothing against Elton John and Bernie, but in terms of craft and influence, I just don't see them measuring up. As far as I'm concerned, the only person who stacks up to The Beatles from that era is the late Brian Wilson.

Ashford and Simpson are better than either of those songwriting duos. So is Lieber and Stoller. Screw the british invasion, all the best music was made in the USA.

Depth and volume eh ? Lennon and McCartney have around 300 credited compositions. Depth I suppose could be someone's opinion, but in my opinion Elton John has about 4 songs that I won't change the station on.
