Hi all,

Looks like Eurotubes got the "watts upgrade" Pro One bias probes back in stock, after a long time, Yesterday so I ordered one. Anyone using these?

I have this. Easy to use. No complaints.

I know how important is to know plate voltage - or else the dissipation percentage is really just a shot in the dark. But I really like the 4-probe feature of the T.A.D. Bias Master, because it allows you to quickly see how closely matched the tubes are. On a 50 watt amp, using the single probe might not be that big a PIA, but for a quad, it’s so nice to heat the amp up once and switch between the tubes.

The hot ticket would be if T.A.D. would include a watts feature on the Bias Master.

I use mine all the time ...... remember to keep in mind ... it doesn't work on Amps that use DC Heaters ....

Can someone check their Euro Tubes probe to see if it looks like mine? I found a black piece of plastic inside this hole today, and I couldn't tell if it was part of the probe or if it broke off from a tube. I checked all my power tubes and none of them are missing a black end, so it's confusing.

Just got one recently and mine is the exact same.

I think the watts just eliminates the math. Using the chart they send with it, biasing is a breeze.

I do agree the one socket kind of sucks, would much rather have 4 or at least pairs but it doesnt make a huge difference, just an extra few minutes.

Have only used it once so far, matching power tubes and the pairs lined up perfectly when adjusting.

Thanks. I finally figured out that it was a broken stem that came from a set of Marshall power tubes that were in a JVM that I tested. Whew, that's a relief.

Are you talking about the black wire? Or the blue plastic? Sorry I must be tripping, I can barely see wires in mine, but I did also break a stem first use.

Definitely recommend breaking the socket in by putting the tube in and out a bunch of times to loosen it up, was super tight at first

I found a piece of a black stem that came from an EL34 Marshall tube that I completely forgot about. I checked all my power tubes at home and none of them had a broken stem. I initially thought the black stem came from inside the probe, but now I remember it came from that JVM amp I briefly had. I did not know one of the stems broke off -- whoops.

mines working fine but i think my tech is fucking with me
he knows i have one, then every time i bring it in for unrelated service is tells me the bias was off.
then when i get it back and check it the reading is the same

and no I didn't have a workbench available that day. it was loaded with car parts

I've got one and it works good for dumbdumbs like me.

If you want a cheaper alternative though you can get one of these and any cheap multimeter: https://a.co/d/0iYt6WAC (this is actually what I use along with the euro tubes one for reading two tubes at once).

Theres a local tech working out of his garage that i will no longer use because he is a psychopath but does good work.

I remember him specifically getting very angry about these units in general, not any particular brand. He would always say they aren't accurate and the only way is with a scope or whatever.

Im sure there's a little truth to what these guys are saying but if it's safe, close enough, sounds good and I dont have to open my amp? Works for me.

Truth is, they keep you out of trouble but aren't giving you the whole picture.

Sometimes you need the bigger picture, some times you don't. If the amp sounds good to you when you are done, job done IMO.

Power tube "bias" w/a meter is set in relation to plate volts and a few other things.
Using an O-scope to bias an amp normally is to find "cross over distortion" type stuff.
Both will work fine but an O-scope isn't "mission critical".
I know who you're talking about and he is a strange guy.
There was also a local luthier i used for 3 refrets & 16 fret levels. Good work but he wigged out during covid.
Just because you can work on guitars & amps doesn't really mean you "work & play well with others."
Oy vie.
