Even stock 2203/2204's have too much gain

You clean tone sounds great there! I really like the gain tone also.

I use Marshall based mods in a Randall RM100 and I keep the gain on them at 12:00 or lower and boost to taste.

I always had my preamp all the way up. Takes the bright cap out of the circuit. Sounded fantastic.

Me too. Back off the volume a bit to clean it up. Hell mine with the preamp dimed with the volume control all the way up on your guitar is ACDC level gain. With no pedal it gets that type of gain. Not muddy. Then just hit it with a TS9 or DS1 t oget more gain.

You got it.
To say my 800 had too much gain dimed is nuts. That sombitch was clean.

Do you guys crank the gain up to 10? I don't think I ever run it past 5 or 6 on most of my amps...7 tops on my Mesas I think.

I crank my gains to 11. ;)

I have cranked the gains to 10, but usually stop at 7 or 8.

I tried this earlier today except i used an OD9 instead of a bad monkey and it sounds pretty good for low volume. I havent used my OCD with my 2204 in a while i started to hate what the pedal did to the bottom end, but i guess the tubescreamer tightens it up nicely. I tried to record a video but whenever i try to record my playing i just completely forget how too hahahah. OP are you running your OCD at 9v or 18v?

9v. The Bad Monkey has a bass control that I use to tame the bass I agree that the OCD is strong in the bass almost too strong for some applications.

I also agree once you get into higher volumes the need to stack overdrive's lessens, the power section makes up for it. It's a nice trick for basement jamming imo.

I have a few OCD's, the latest one is tighter in the bass as well...imo.

I have the V1.4 its cool. I use to use that as a boost but got the OD9 and my usual settings are 8 on the preamp, volume as loud as i am able too (not that loud), and on the od9 gain is up half way volume all the way up and one around 1 o clock. Stacking the two pedals together is viable option now too.

You sir...have inspired me. I have a 2012 Quick Rod and while I was very happy with the gain I felt my LP was not really getting it with the head. So, based off of your clip, I lowered the gain on the head to 3 turned on my SD-1 then my KOKO boost and holyshit the amp seemed to have a new voice, i felt the guitar through the head. Amazing. Thanks again  !
