The owners manual says the same thing... plug in footswitch before powering up

Yes you need the foot switch plugged in first then power up.

I have been hearing of these type issues with the 5153 since its release, u figure they would have corrected it and or improved their qc by now.

My first went back cause of the weird intermittent screech and footswitch wackiness . Did have foot switch plugged in first. Got a second one, after 2 weeks, same problem plus it didn't have same mojo as first but still great amp.
Scared me so bye bye.

Yeah, it costed me about 40 bones to get the switch fixed. Plus the time without my footswitch and use of the amp. It sure wouldnt kill Fender to fix the problem???

I had similiar issues with my 5153 effect loop. I swapped the preamp tube and all went away...been running glorious since. There is an order to power up the amp, it states it in the manual otherwise you will have issues with the effect loop. Forgot exactly what it was, but when I worked at Randall we had the exact same issues with the MTS series amps. You have to plug everything into the amp, then turn it on.

I have the same issues with my footswitch and I always plug it in before turning the amp on. Does anyone know where I can buy a new cable for the footswitch or if there is another cable I can substitute for it?

As far as I know you can only use an EVH cable. It's a proprietary cable, different than a midi cable. Contact Fender.

Actually any 7 pin midi cable will work.
I have a Hosa brand 7 pin 30' spare from my ADA MP-1 that I use on occasion with my 5150III 100w.

There has been some debate about this in the past. I tried a regular midi cable and it didn't work. Fender also told me it wasn't a standard midi cable. But hey, if it worked for you, great. Worth a try.

Yeah, it can't be a regular 5 pin. It's a 7 pin.

I even tested the EVH cable on my ADA MP-1. It works!

My biggest issue with the 5153 is that there is no way to turn the effects loop on or off without the footswitch. Give it a damn button somewhere on the amp!!! I'm actually thinking about modding it to just have the loop on all the time. Since I run my G-Major through the loop, it's onn all the time anyway.

I don't have that problem with mine. It's been solid since I've had it. I even programmed the midi message to enable/disable the effect loop with my G-major II. I also use a RG-16/mastermind combo and it works just fine.

EVH III PROBLEMS!!!

I purchased my EVH late spring 2012 and loved it. No issues. Then this past September at a show no less, my lead channel was nothing but a whistling high pitch squeal. My leads played out but were overpowered by this repulsive noise! Replaced all tubes, same issue! Sent it back and received a new one 6 weeks later! Been playing just fine until now. Channel three is doing the same thing but only when I push the gain knob past 3 O'clock. Now I have to keep my gain below this setting to get that channel to work and sound like its supposed to. Now I'm gun shy at gigs that the same problem will happen again. No explanation from Fender/evh/? as to what the issue is. I'm honestly ready to send it back again and make another choice!
I'm really bummed, I finally found an amp that fits my sound and now I may have to make an amp change!
FRUSTRATED BEYOND BELIEF!!! Anyone else having these issues or know of anyone that has????
Thanks

Howard Kaplan, the guy who designed the EVH 50w amp, frequents this thread on TGP and checks it daily. He can help you.

Will do thanks, I really hate to lose this amp! I love the tone

I had this issue and it turned out to be the footswitch cable. I swapped it for a Mesa one and haven't had a single problem in 6-7 months. Talking about the problem in the OP.

I have had one for a year and no issues. Of course using it per the operators manual helps.

I think the JVM410 midi foot switch has the same instructions not to hot switch the foot switch.
