Looks like Ed's tech crew is doing quite a crap job of support on this tour. I know, he's probably not the easiest guy to please but what's with all the tuning issues lately??
Look at this video - seems Eddie is trying to tell his sound guy to his left that his monitor is way too loud! So he just picks it up and throws it in front of him facing out at the soundman!

ive watched a few of the videos of him being out of tune, and it really does seem like the tech crew is screwing up. the first one with Jump being way out, i could see the sampler being off, but all these other videos just seem like disasters! i think there was one of Aint Talkin Bout Love where Eddies high strings were way off.

youd think that VH would hire some competant people? or maybe they lied on their resumes!

Dude, he just had a bad hair day...

He should just switch guitars ESPECIALLY in a song like Jump where the keys are carrying the song anyways!!??
Dumb... Just grab another guitar!

when they kick out DLR at the end of the tour or before the end of the tour.. I bet they blame it all on DLR :D

Lonnie totman addressed this issue on the huge rack forum. he said that EVH has a specific way he likes the guitars to be tuned and he never likes to switch guitars. Lonnie said that he doesn't allow the techs to use a tuner as well. im not sure how they go about finding the pitch but Lonnie said that he would go into detail one day about the tuning thing. Methinks that the new guys who were hired haven't perfected the EVH way of tuning yet and that's why he is having problems.

As far as the monitors go, I can see his frustration but all he had to do is walk up further and deal with the problem before the next tune. I think the hissy fit BS is comming from him realizing that he is sucking on this tour because anyone who is happy with his recent playing is most definitely a great fan caught up in nostalgia. I've never heard Eddie play so poorly for this long of a period of time. Im starting to think that either he burnt himself out on drugs or that he has arthritis in his hands.

Of all the reviews I've heard of VH on this tour, and I've heard a lot, only guitar players are complaining about the tone, tuning, or playing. Most of my non musical friends rave about the shows, the energy, the cool old VH w/DLR factor, how good DLR sounds, etc.

It really makes me wonder if we think too hard about some of this stuff.

Hey Ralph,

I LOVED being at the show, it was a great show and lots of fun.
Ok...now,
Eddie has lost his fire. He is not at all playing like he did even on the 1998 VHIII tour, which he was VERY sharp and played pretty darn good (but still not like the 80's). He is fluffing thru most solos now and it's a darn shame to see it as I still have many videos and recordings of his live stuff from Fair Warning, Diver Down, VH II tours that would blow your mind.
Fun to see him back with Dave, but what a let down as far as his playing is concerned...

From the moment I heard EVH's guitar as they were coming on stage, I knew from the noise that he wasn't going to be playing as well as I wished I could see him play!
You know... right before the lights go on... he was basically just making noise, not burning like he used to when the show was about to start.

So... right then and there, I just enjoyed the show for what it was.
But as a guitarist it actually "hurts" to see him play some of the solos the way he does now. He misses complete lines and hit's a harmonic and whammy instead of the lick!
Sad...
Oh well.

George Lynch... Now there's a guy who's STILL on fire at 53!!! He's as good or better than he's ever been!

Keith

He played fine at the show I went to - no major flubs and while he didn't do note for note or take many chances he was still very good.

Brother Keith!!

Thats pretty much what I feel as well but after watching Eddies performances, I opted not to go see the recent tour. Id rather remember him when he was playing well. Im always greatful that I got to see him, roth and the band in their prime.
On another note, Im not even that much of a stickler either. I'd be willing to let things slide but Im seeing all sorts of weird things going on with hime. I'm seeing dropped passages and one of the things that almost made me cry is that the man who had some of the best laid back timing is out to lunch on his rhythm skills. Im just at a loss.

Son of a ....

THey better hold this shit together. I got tickets on the 27th!!! :gethim: :gethim: :gethim:

let me tell you what i tell many people who have come back from live shows, the proof is in the recording. Its possible that what you thought you saw might not have been as good as you think. Id have to see some video of the show you saw before id believe it and Im not trying to sound like a prick either. Years ago my friend and I went to a Jeff Beck show. Beck was drunk and could hardly play. I had a little hand held recorder in my pocket and recorded the gig. My friend who I was with was crying tears of joy after hearing one of his idols play. After the gig, he turned to me and said that he thought Beck was amazing. i asked him are you sure? he said yes!!! I then let him listen to the tape Then He started crying because he got to really hear what was really going on vs getting caught up in the moment. im not doubting you but Id have to hear it for myself.

all the best!

I've never recorded a show but I've encountered similar situations with friends and quite frankly I'm pretty sure I've been caught up in the moment at a show or two and had a higher opinion of the performance than I should have too.

Oh no... he's still leagues above many, Bro.
It's just not at all like he was in say 1981 or 1984 ...
It was still great to see him up there with Dave tho!
Watch this video, you'll see/hear what I'm talk'n about.

I was at this show. Yes he did throw the monitor to face the soundman, but what the video didn't show you (because they we're recording Wolfie w/ Dave on the far left) was Eddie drag the monitor and toss it off the stage!!!

I said this in a different post, but it bares repeating-Eddies solo was the second worst I've heard next to CC Deville. And I'm a Eddie fan!

saw the nassau show.
one of the best concerts I have seen, as far as shows go
probably the best I have seen dlr period
eddie is definately a shadow of his former self, and i too am an eddy fan.
look, for those of us that cut our teeth on vh shit twenty five years ago, we all know those licks note for note, and we have all seen him do them before. This was not then. shame, but thats the long and short of it. I have also heard guys sit there and tell me that he was great, yadda yadda yadda.................and yes, he is still great, but not when you compare him to what he was ten or twenty years ago. look, morse, vai, satch, lynch, beck, schon, dimeola, McGlaughlin, all got better with age. unfortunately, eddy has not. he is still great, just not up to where he set the bar for the rest of us those many years ago.............
and I am still glad I went!
