I was at this show. Yes he did throw the monitor to face the soundman, but what the video didn't show you (because they we're recording Wolfie w/ Dave on the far left) was Eddie drag the monitor and toss it off the stage!!!

I said this in a different post, but it bares repeating-Eddies solo was the second worst I've heard next to CC Deville. And I'm a Eddie fan!

When did he throw it offstage ... during Ice Cream Man?

sorry to the VH fans but that sucked so hard I couldnt stomach it to get to wherever he loses it ...not wasting 9 minutes of my life lookin for it :)

all the reviews of this tour are pretty good but just about every youtube video shows them in a different light...aside from the couple songs where they are outta key

I'm a huge Van Halen fan and loved the show.
Eddie's 51 years old or so? He's gone thru a whole crapload of stuff in the last decade and he's abused alcohol and probably drugs earlier in his career ... He's not as sharp as he used to be.
Too bad, but this happens to some of us as we age.
When I watch / listen to past concerts I clearly hear a huge difference in his playing. I still enjoyed seeing EVH and Roth back up there together. Oh well...
You cannot recreate the past!
For anyone that never saw them in the early 80's, this is a nice "idea" of what it was like as far as the "show" goes, but certainly not Eddie's playing skills.
All in all, still a real fun night!

Kw

The guy is not getting my money, I have to perform every day to earn my money and if I pay for a show I demand a good solid performance period. I have seen EVH in his prime for $20 so why should I pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$ for a weak showing?

I give no slack for his age or condition, if a sports hero is washed up he is not paid......if an artist loses his creative edge he sells no paintings........a top chef no longer creates incredible dishes his books do not sell........etc. So imo no pass for EVH, he can bleed Fender for money.

Good points... true.

I hear ya Scott. I have tickets for one week from tonight and pretty damn good seats too. I was a little on the fence about this show for basically the same reasons you stated but I haven't really been to any concerts for quite a long time. I figured wtf, its the same money I would have spent for a few shows, I've only missed VH once when they came thru my area, and it will be a cool date night for me and the wife. Even if the show sucks balls, I still get out of the house with no kids, doing something guitar related with my smoking hot wife. Don't see how I can go wrong

You will love it! Great show!
It does NOT "suck balls" at all, in my opinion.
Enjoy the show for what it is and you'll love it!

I agree with this 100 percent and I am a HUGE EVH fan.

Look, here is teh deal where Im comming from.
Clapton was a full blown heroin addict and shot the crap into his veins for many years. He's had tons of health issues and had to go trhough his little son falling out of a window to his death. Is Clapton playing the way he used to? Not really but he still puts on a killer show with no chum and drama going on. I don't give Eddie any slack for what has happened to him. Its life and most of his Bullshit was self inflicted anyway (minus the cancer). The point Im making is that when I hear how hard Eddies life has been over the past few years, I'm like tough shit and cry me a fucking river. It happens to all of us and it is no excuse for him to pull hissy fits, treat people like shit and just being an all around ass. His performances have been terrible IMHO.
Hell, I don't even care if can't play the way he used to but at least give me a decent performance for the money they are asking. I know he has it in him but Methinks he doesn't give a rats ass and as long as the diehards praise him on this tour, your gonna get more of the same.

Just so you guys know, I do not think that anyone is foolish to go to the shows. I just have my reasons for not going to this one. I paid $370 for 2 EVO tickets to see Vai and I am sure there are people here that would think that is nuts and I would not blame you!!! That is some freaking change for sure.

Peace :)

Plus lots of older players can still play well. Using age as an excuse is weak IMO unless you have a medical condition like arthritis, tendonitis, whatever but then you shouldn't be charging a fortune unless it's a just a money grab

Prior to the start of this tour, many would cringe at the thought of DLR back onstage after "losing" his voice over the last 20 years. There are plenty of Youtube videos available to back this up.

Then there are those who desparately wanted EVH to get "back on his game" with this tour. Well, once again turning to Youtube, we can see that there are times that this is so and other times where it's not.

I agree that EVH seems to have lost interest. BUT what I do love is that DLR is getting it done each and every night. Seems like the boys have swapped work ethic over the years.

I'll only speculate what this is doing for EVH's gigantic ego/self-esteem issues . . . . .

ok, lets put it this way...........
eddy and dave on stage doing old vh, and dave putting it out there the way its supposed to be done.
if eddy is not up to eddy standards, thats a shame, but measure the concert on its own merits today, and not on 20 years ago or so.
yeah, I have seen them with eddy in his prime maybe 20 times or more, ;) and this isn't it :aww: but its still worth it compared to paying a c-note to see aerosmith on the same date two years ago.
just enjoy it for what its worth, not everyone can be Jeff Beck, can they..

He played fine at the show I went to - no major flubs and while he didn't do note for note or take many chances he was still very good.

let me tell you what i tell many people who have come back from live shows, the proof is in the recording. Its possible that what you thought you saw might not have been as good as you think. Id have to see some video of the show you saw before id believe it and Im not trying to sound like a prick either. Years ago my friend and I went to a Jeff Beck show. Beck was drunk and could hardly play. I had a little hand held recorder in my pocket and recorded the gig. My friend who I was with was crying tears of joy after hearing one of his idols play. After the gig, he turned to me and said that he thought Beck was amazing. i asked him are you sure? he said yes!!! I then let him listen to the tape Then He started crying because he got to really hear what was really going on vs getting caught up in the moment. im not doubting you but Id have to hear it for myself.

all the best!

You're friend cries a lot.

....This is the ONLY way for us old timers who have seen Ed at the top of his game, to go and enjoy the show!
I agree with Ralph 100% too, so I had to just go and have fun at the Roth/EVH "together maybe for the last time" show.
I do not see Eddie ever playing like he once did, ever again. Just my opinion.
Like I said before, I enjoyed George Lynch in 2005 with 175 people there MUCH more than this VH tour. Lynch show cost me $28 !!!
So ya, I see Ralphie's point... Lynch is 53 years old and rippin his licks faster, better and sharper than ever!
