EVH v VH4...just an observation....

Soooo...no trying to start a shitstorm....really....truly....but....

I'm reading in the 5153 'lounge' thread......man, is it just me or are lots of you 5153 guys having some problems????? Like bad channel switching, volume in/out, transformers shitting the bed......hmmmm.....I guess things can happen and these new production tubes are shit nowadays but......I mean good luck with those amps. Hopefully guys have warranties. I'd be a little worried if I gigged that amp regularly to be honest. I think the last 2 pages were dudes asking questions about this issue or that issue....I did have 2 of them but only gigged with the EVH once. I think most of these amps are fairly new. I know, every amp can have problems but....it seems to be pretty common in that thread.

Maybe there is something to "you get what you pay for"........

you get what you pay for. I own the evh 5150 III 50 watt. I like it but it is way far from being perfect. I had an issue on the blue ch. fart out and it had to be repaired under warranty. The design of the amp ch. switching is pretty stupid to. These are things i knew going into it though.

I've read a lot of anecdotal complaints about their reliability. When I saw Jake E Lee and Red Dragon Cartel last year, the EVH was shut down and he was using a Line 6 head.

I own the EVH 2 X12 Combo and the Stealth head.I have not had any problems with mine so far. I have gigged with the Stealth and have had zero issues. I know the very first run of the EVH amps had issues. I think they have all the bugs worked out. I would agree the tubes are crap. I don't think the tubes are tested very well. There is a lot of buzz around the Stealth head. I believed about half of what was said about the amp. If you go into purchasing the Stealth thinking it is going to be the best amp/tone ever, then you are sadly mistaking and fooling yourself. I purchased the Stealth because they said it was the EVH 100 watter on steroids and they are correct about that. As far as comparing amps from this to that,why bother ?

Truth is, EVH himself is going to sound better than you whether he's plugged into an evh amp, a diezel, a $20 pawn shop special, or plunking away on a fuckin ukulale or something. I can't be a rockstar, but at least I can have a status symbol? Fine, lets stipulate that the VH4 shits all over everything (wish I hadn't sold mine NOW). Feel better about your lives?

Btw - i had to have my diezel worked on once. Probably the first time it happened to someone...

I have had my EVH for several years with zero issues other than a bad preamp tube that was actually one I put in there and wasn't factory.

Whether a VH4 sounds worse or better is totally subjective.

Nope. I had to send two Diezel's back..... one Einstein combo and a Herbert head. Does that make Deizel's bad amps? No.

Well, some of us cannot afford a VH4. Transformers die. It happens. I'm not really upset that the PT on my EVH died. I'm a bit miffed at Fender CS for not having parts on hand, but that's a different issue. I would love a Diezel or Friedman or many other high dollar amps. I just don't have that kinda money. Great for you guys who do, but not all of us can justify $3 to 4k an an amplifier. And I don't consider the $1800 for the EVH to be cheap by any means. Most of us just try to purchase the best amp we can with what we can reasonably afford.
