EVH v VH4...just an observation....

I simply do not care for the tone it puts out.
And porche is a nicely engineered machine, but I prefer my M5. Ironically another German design, however, they succeeded with my vehicle and went astray on the amp for some odd reason.

Ok here's what I am going to say I just tried both amps today I'm gonna say both are synthetic sounding lol buy a Mesa

Put my 996 911 Turbo against that BMW you got there....just sayin, you're wrong about the Diesel and now wrong about the Porsche vs BMW too...so sorry dude

I don't have any idea of what people mean when they say synthetic sounding. They have a lot of gain and compression? They sound like an AxeFx? I don't think either Diezels or EVHs sound solid state.

How can you be wrong about your own preference in sound?

It's all in how you use the tool given to you. All there is and ever will be. I'm a VH4 owner but would have no problem gigging any 5150/53. They've been sold for a few years now and people keep buying them so they can't be horrible.

Nah man, they're cheap fizz boxes built by Mexicans . Better stick with that Diezel, otherwise people will figure you for a broke loser with minuscule testicles. :aww:

I'm a loser with small rocks ....but I still own 2 Diezels..come on.

How can you not "stand" the sound a properly working VH4 puts out? It's not like it's a completely different sound than other Marshall based amps...channel 3 alone is on an awful lot of recordings and VH4's are in a ton of studios. Man oh man some of the remarks on here really lack credibility..it's like "I played one once in a GC for 5 minutes at mouse fart volume with bad tubes and other issues...WTF? I bet a lot of these comments come from people who have never played one (VH4) at all. It's not like many stores carry them. I've had all 3 versions on the EVH amps, all good, sound a bit artificial, over saturated and "plasticky" IMO. But still a very good amp for the money and does a lot, quite versatile. However I think the VH4 is a far better amp and built like a brick shithouse out of top shelf components. With 4 channels all of which excel at what they do plus multiple loops that do not color the tone and Midi switching it is one the top tier guitar amps ever made...period! I sold all of the EVH amps in the end. Still have the VH4.

It's like someone who has never driven a Porsche but think they suck at handling. It's a joke.
They prefer their Hyundai and think it's the best handling car on the road...

I've actually owned a VH4 briefly. I just didn't jive with it. I prefer the tones I get out of the EVH easily, in comparison....and, it was cheap as fuck.

This thread is more funny than the last one.

I'll say it one last time, the 5150 is a fine amp, I wouldn't throw it over a cliff.
But at least the Diezel can handle the fall :)

They both sound like shit :D

Peavey series 5150 or 5150 II anyday

I wouldn't say that I am wrong, rather that I have my own opinion of it.

Also, if my amp has an issue in the future, ie.. transformer or something else.. I will simply fix it. I like the amp enough to go out of my way to fix and add if necessary, a higher grade component. If the VH4 had tone that I like, I would do the same. Simply is not for me. If the VH4 was $999.99 brand new, I'd still feel the same.

And my M5 does just fine for me btw.

A vintage Marshall!!!! Cuz I've owned a few that looked like they already have... :aww:

All 5150's are shit... the Peavey's and the new EVH 5150 III. You put in enough gain and a buzzy, grindy sound and you're gonna satisfy all the metal kids. Helps to have the name too.

Yes that's exactly what I mean they have a very solid state feel to the tone tone and since we are talking cars its like an import vs American muscle thing

Channel 3 sounded very open and Marshally to me on the VH4. Not compressed at all...but more of a low mid emphasis that I'm not a fan of. But still a cool amp.....I'm an upper mid fan. SLO, Marshall....VHT Deliverance has a nice upper mid bite also. Never should have sold my D60.....
