Famous guitarists who can't sing to save their life...

Yeah, being a Satch fanboy he was the first person that popped into my mind! The Flying in a Blue Dream album is the worst offender of the bunch, with Is There Love in Space a close second. Joe, you're so good at guitar, cut out the singing...please...*shudder* :no:

It's the same as his guitar playing...used to be great, gone downhill. I thought his voice was great on Book of Shadows and Pride and Glory, which I still listen to quite a bit.

Neil Young is another name that pops to mind....amazing songwriter, just wish someone else would sing them for him. But that seems to be subjective, as I know a bunch of people who love his voice, so whatever floats your boat.

As for Corgan and Mustaine...they're pretty unique sounding, so although they may be a bit nasally at times, the fact that they have good lyrics and stand out from the crowd makes me hesitant to include them.

I know I can't sing, so I don't bother....the only difference is I can't play guitar either :lol: :LOL:

I was surprised Billy Corgan came up so many times. I don't think he's a GREAT singer, but he is certainly not bad. I haven't seen him live though.

Slash! Haha. That one was a good one! Totally did not see that coming. I haven't heard him sing. It's the perfect example of what I originally started the thread for... guys who won't touch a mic.

Neil Young as a surprising one too. And Satch... I remember the covered Neil's "Rocking in the Free World" on the G3 Tour. I thought it didn't sound half bad. At least he pulled it off.

Alex Lifeson... That comments about him were pretty funny...

Mark Knopfler... I actually had to look up his name up in order to spell it! I really like his singing, specially on album recordings. I recently heard a live recording and I was less than thrilled, but still not bad.

Dave Mustaine... Definitely has a strange voice! He pulled it off though. Props for him!

I've always wondered and never bothered to look it up. I know he has many guys come in. But, the main singer, who is he? I'm mainly taking about the singer in the album "The Best of Carlos Santana" He's a good singer by the way.
Enlighten me.

Ahh, you're only referring to those who realize what they sound like. I know of none... although, I don't allow mics in front of my face for the very reason that if I sing, people will die. Actually, it would be more like mass suicide at the show.

I hate his voice. He that singing through the nose thing going on. Tom Petty, Dylan and Knopfler all seem to be cut from the same clothe as far as singing goes.


And how about Eric Clapton. I never really liked his voice that much.

Also, Joe Walsh sounds like he's drunk and stoned when he sings, but i guess it works.

Dude...no way....Johnson sings awesome! I really like his vocals...always have.

I really don't much care for Joe Bonamasa's vox(sorry if spelled wrong) but love his tones.

DUDE! Bonamassa's voice is freakin killer. Listen to his version of "Feelin Good" and tell me that intro isn't awesome! "Askin around for you" and "The great flood" are some others.

I know that Greg Rollie from Journey sang on some Santana stuff but not sure if its the same stuff your referring too
 
John Petrucci's backing vocals are often times pretty bad and off-key.
 
I've gotta disagree with a lot of the people here, as Corgan, Mustaine, Neil Young, etc., have sold millions and millions and millions of albums, so it's obvious to me that the uniqueness of their voices have done a lot to separate them from the general crowd. I wouldn't consider these guys "famous guitarists who cant sing to save their life"... Then again, the point of the original question is a little confusing.

But of course, this is opinion type stuff. If I were to add my list of guitarist who are a little "shaky" in front of the mic, I would have to say:

Jeff Healy (that ballad he did was pretty awful)

Uli Roth (although he sings with conviction, the Tokyo Tapes album has some iffy stuff like Dark Lady)

Early Gary Moore (saw him open for Rush a long time ago...painful) Now almost OK.

Joe Perry (as other's have said)...There were a few era's of Aerosmith concerts where he would get to perform a few solo songs. Not very good with the mic.

maybe not now, but he was pretty much allways wasted back in the good old days.


the old Stern clips are crazy! he'd be to wasted to even talk and could pick up a guitar a play like a champ! :rock:
 
Didn't Adrian Smith sing on Silver and Gold? Wasn't terrible...
