Suhr and Anderson are the answer to Fender. You have that backwards. Fender has to answer to no one. Leo invented this shit and even though he sold his shares long ago, everyone has learned their craft from him and just added their touches to it. Fender is just adding one more flavor to their menu here...nothing more. The guitars look nice, but that video was so bad. WTF were they thinking. It was completely inane and moronic and I want that part of my life back...lol.

It's okay. Just think good, positive thoughts. Just because you didn't like the video, it doesn't mean that Fender was able to steal away a portion of your finite lifespan. It was just a moment in time.

It's ok, I was joking...notice the lol after my comment.

If Fender has "to answer to no one," as you put it, then why release versions of their guitars that mimic what Suhr puts out? And, to top it off, why call them Fender Selects.

They don't have to. They did it to add it to an already extensive catalog of products. In fact they none these are new. Most of these have been made in the past to some degree in on variation or another. It's also like asking why do Anderson and Suhr make "Classic" models without the flame tops and such....because people want them. Fender is a business and they will give people what they want as long as it is in their best interest. I am not a Fender fanboi. That said, make no mistake, Leo set the gameplan...don't get it backwards.

I'd take one of these any day. The headstocks are cooler.

agreed. I don't like covering beautiful tops with hunks of plastic however.

there is something about the Suhr bodies that look off to me and not appealing, sure they are great guitars though.

I think they look cool.Hopefully they come in more colors. I still have more faith in build quality with Tom. Only time will tell. It kind of feels like Fender is a little late for this party. Hope it works out for them.

Honestly I'm sure all of these flavours were already available through Fender's CS upon request. Maybe they just noticed a ramping up of these requests and decided to put out an entire line :dunno:

Either way, nice woods - I'm sure they're stellar players... Betty in the ad was nice over my morning coffee. Life moves on. And ya, some of the TGP cats are probably already rubbing up against their monitors in full hump-mode.

Love my American strat that I paid a reasonable price for. Great build!

there are only so many red, black, blue, yellow, gold, white.. guitars you can paint.. times change.. why not do something like suhr.. suhr sure did copy from fender.. fender doesnt mimic suhr... suhr mimics fender.. fender and gibson are immortals.. and the other wannabe's are mortals.. and thats a fact...

Fender has always made a slick guitar for the right price. One thing's certain though; that promo commercial thing was LAME. WTF?

Did somebody say Fender is late to the party?!
Hahahahah! Classic.

Anyways ...

The Fender Select guitars look just like Suhr guitars. Therefore, Fender IS mimicking Suhr by creating the Select series guitars. This isn't, you know, an opinion - it is fact. I have never seen a production Fender guitar look like that. Maybe some one offs. I get that Suhr's are copies of Strats, but they took the Strat and created their own version. By default, If Fender's Select version looks just like a Suhr, it is probably because they are trying to compete with Suhr. Hence the similar price ranges as well.

If you love Fender and want to dub them as immortals, that is fine by me. I don't even know what that means. We aren't talking about Greek tragedies here. Just guitars -- and why Fender decided to create a Fender Select series of instruments. Clearly, they feel the need to compete with Suhr.

Why would anybody give a rat's ass which is better, first, late to the party, the answer to...., the original..etc...??? They are all guitars.....you play them....you enjoy them....some feel better than others to specific individuals. This whole "which one is better" threads always give me a chuckle...

I wonder if you will be able to buy the pickups separately?

Really? Fender has been making Custom Shop guitars for years. And don't kid yourself, the Fender Custom Shop IS production.
And, apparently you need to look at market shares. Fender doesn't compete with anybody. Suhr and Anderson aren't even a blip on the screen. :aww:

Fender CS stuff has been top quality for years and they've certainly been doing guitars like in the OP for as long, this "selcect" stuff is just a lower price point.

Agreed, this "who copied who" stuff is ridiculous. Maybe we should all play Fender amps. After all the rest are just wannabes, right?

From what I understand this is still a factory instrument not custom shop.
We are just a blip on their radar but that doesn't mean they don't know who we and Anderson are.
Back when I was in meetings 15 years ago Andersons name came up many times at the Fender table as did amp companies like Victoria.

I have no idea what that movie was trying to say
Playing that guitar makes you not want to have sex? Maybe like a Cycle seat?
And correct... Tom and I are not worried in the slightest.

It isn't about the look, it is about functionality, warranty, customer service, tone and playability.
We choose to put our money in those areas instead of making our customers pay for advertising.

Fender trying to compete with Suhr?? What are you smoking? Who are you, Suhr's Marketing rep?? Fender has been making uniquely designed instruments for decades outside the classic Stratocaster. Just because the guitar has got modern features does not mean its trying to compete with another company...especially Suhr which is know to rip off designs and call it there's. Hence, the noiseless backplate..

Clearly, you don't know jack about the Fender History and catalog of instruments ( including limited editions) they've designed, patented and release.
