I'd take one of these any day. The headstocks are cooler.

So you would take appearance of headstock over quality of build

:facepalm

I play Stratocasters because they sound great AND they're sexy.

I guarantee you buy what you buy based on function as well as looks. Clothing, cars, guitars, shoes. Everything! If you say any different then you're full of s&$t.

+1

Totally agree. Function and appearance mean a lot to me.

Can somebody also please tell me the definition of a Superstrat?
I have Fender Stratocasters with humbuckers in them. Are they Supertrats?
By the way, my humbuckers are Suhr Aldrich. My favorite humbucker to date. ;)

I know that Fender had lawyers calling GMW posing as customers trying to get fender headstocks, only way I was able to get one of the last ones was that Gainfreak put in a word for me. Fender pays $$$$$$$$$$$ to keep that headstock that Bad Ronald looks at while he is playing. As weird as that sounds...................

I have a Fender CS paint job right in front of me, makes Gibson look like a ship fools it is so good. The bad part is that you will pay for it.

About the vid, yeah it is pointed at lawyers and doctors and not guitarists.

Ask a couple of the founding fathers of the superstrat, Tom Anderson and John Suhr.

YOu know you are going to hurt your neck trying to look at that headstock while playing

I rarely look at my guitar when playing. ;)

A Superstrat to me: A humbucker in the bridge (sometimes in the neck as well)...hotter than average, fast necks with flatter radiuses...often compound, trems in most cases,....including Floyds, contoured bodies, often sleek-contoured neck heels, often locking tuners in place of traditional tuners but not always, sometimes maple caps, etc.

If that's the definition of a superstrat, Fender has been making them for something like 25 years. I think the Strat Plus was the first variation with Lace Sensors. Jeff Beck's current signature model has 3 stacked hot noiseless humbuckers, locking tuners, roller nut, contoured heel, two-point bridge, etc. Even the American Deluxe HSS guitars have these characteristics. The Select Series just seems like a much more expensive version of the Deluxe Series with carved tops and bindings. I'm assuming the pickups are not noiseless though.

LoL, no comment on the guitars (as I'm not a huge fan of zebra bursts), but the site's main page looks like an ad for condoms!

Amen! :D

Nice propaganda film to sell guitars.......*yawn*...

Suhr and Anderson have them pegged anyway. :)

Fender CS was making these as production models in the 90's

Tom Anderson and Grover Jackson were building these in the late 70's and early 80's:

It is an interesting offering. At that price point, as John Suhr pointed out in this thread, there are other things to consider. I have an Anderson that I bought 11 years ago. Great guitar that I absolutely love. 2 years ago, we (brother, dad, and I) swung by the Anderson factory for a tour, only to have someone come by and introduce himself as "Tom." Tom Anderson spend well over an hour with us taking us through the whole shop. He answered all of our questions (many of which may have sounded naive and foolish). If I were going to spend that kind of scratch on a guitar, I'd go the small shop route.

I am a fender fan. The best guitar I owe is a Strat. I like the new line but I don't see where the added cost is. Flame maple top and custom pickups? They missed the mark if this if they are trying to compete with customizable Anderson/Suhr guitar. The Cork Sniffers can have these. I'll stick with the American Standards. I think they should have added staff in the custom shop and marketed that instead.

Really? Fender has been making Custom Shop guitars for years. And don't kid yourself, the Fender Custom Shop IS production.
And, apparently you need to look at market shares. Fender doesn't compete with anybody. Suhr and Anderson aren't even a blip on the screen. :aww:
From what I understand this is still a factory instrument not custom shop.
We are just a blip on their radar but that doesn't mean they don't know who we and Anderson are.
Back when I was in meetings 15 years ago Andersons name came up many times at the Fender table as did amp companies like Victoria.

I have no idea what that movie was trying to say
Playing that guitar makes you not want to have sex? Maybe like a Cycle seat?
And correct... Tom and I are not worried in the slightest.

It isn't about the look, it is about functionality, warranty, customer service, tone and playability.
We choose to put our money in those areas instead of making our customers pay for advertising.
wow.. didnt know customer service had such a high price tag!!! thats the biggest load of crap ive ever heard...

Absolutely, but the thread, at least to me, was more about Fender being too late in getting on board with the more recent (last 10 years) surge of Suhr and the like popularity. Charvel, Jackson, Kramer etc. all owned the 80's.

I don't care for the Fender's in the promo, reminds me too much of their foto-flames. But one of their CS Showmasters from the 90's still haunts me from a catalog pic. Never could afford it but have never forgotten it.

Super strat to me means larger frets, Floyds and upgraded pickups. It could be Fender, Charvel, GMW, Anderson, Suhr, Schecter, Warmoth, or a parts guitar.

Nah, he's just saying what most think about high dollar, boutique instruments but are afraid to say in case they anger the forum gods. I couldn't care less if some one wants to spend $1000 or $3000 on a guitar. But for most who can't afford a $3000 guitar and get a chance to play that $3000 guitar and feel it's not much better, if better at all, than you can feel a big WTF come over you about that high dollar instrument. This is not a slight against any high dollar guitar maker but as a consumer I'm allowed to not get caught up in forum hype and after playing them for myself say it's not worth it. All IMO and from my own experience trying and buying.

I see what you're saying, but he edited his post from the time I read it until my reply a few minutes later. He planned on ordering a Modern but decided not to based on John's post. To each their own, but that's moronic IMO.
