Since we are showing our dogs here is my latest pack (notice that I have an Irish Wolfhound, Malamute, Shepherds, etc.. all of which were adopted)

That's an AWESOME family portrait man! LOVE IT!!!

Especially love that husky. I'm partial to the spitz breeds. Currently have my akita (from a breeder) and a shiba inu (shelter rescue). Had a pomeranian (shelter rescue), but she passed recently. Pretty much love all dogs... but the more wolf-like (primative) they are the more I am drawn to them. I find most dogs to be preferrable company to the company of most humans...

PS- for all the "adopting is the only way to go if you are a dog lover"..pleaaaaaaaaase spare me and everyone else that bullshit who actually takes the time to research breeds and owns them for a reason. With a reputable breeder you know the line (temperament, health etc..) where as with a mix you have no way of knowing where it comes from or the potential health issues it may face. I get so sick of that BS and hear it all the time from my sister in law. I'm a proud owner of a purebred and probably always will stick with purebreds because I like them. End of story.

haha you could NOT be further from the truth. I've worked with dogs for over 30 years. 14 of it in severe behavioral training for shelters and rescue groups. More often then not the extreme cases came from 'reputable' breeders and were often dogs such as labs and shepherds. Mixs tend to have better traits BECAUSE they are mixed. Thats what I've found from working with over 1,200 cases.

I also have a dog walking, dog training, pet sitting and dog socializing business. So I've met too many dogs to keep up with. Most dogs, 'pure' bred or 'mix' breeds, have great dispositions. My point would be that every...single....time you buy a dog you are killing a dog in a shelter. The biggest blame is the rural, uneducated people who refuse to fix their dogs. But IF you consider yourself a dog lover then adopting is the only course IMO. Buying from a breeder just supports them breeding. There really is no excuse for not going and adopting the dog you want from a breed rescue group. Almost every breed has their own rescue group in the USA.

That said, Ive had a couple of clients with Mastiffs and bull mastiffs. They are great dogs. Just watch the slobber ;)

Awesome!!
That wolfhound is badass

The best part of my day is waking up to a stubby tail going a million miles an hour and a fat wet nose pressed up against my cheek until I can no longer fake that I am trying to sleep in. I wake up tired and zonked out but never crusty since I got my dog because he makes it worth getting up every day. He's also just lies down and lets me play guitar without any problems and when people come over, he gives us space. I got lucky. Never destroyed any gear or chewed any shoes either. Even if he did though, I'd still dig him. I think i'll always own a dog after this. House feels empty without a canine presence following me around wondering what I am doing every second.

AMEN to all of that!

Having said that... my wife and I are such animal lovers, but we also LOVE to travel and just pick-up and go. And since we've been slaves to our dogs, going on trips has been a LOT more stressful. We hired a dog sitter in June when we took all my kids to the SF Bay area for a week. Usually, it's just my wife and I running to Vegas or something and we can just have one or two of my older kids dog sit. But it's always stressfull for us and we often wish we didn't have those kinds of committments to tie us down. Nevertheless... we both know that soon after our current dogs go we will adopt more because to come home and not have those waggy tails going and see that "doggie smile" would be a SERIOUS bummer and lonely/empty feeling.

BTW... didn't mean to over-do it in the OP's thread without posting a hearty "VERY CUTE PUPPY!!!".

I don't even have kids and I feel exactly the same way   . Before we got our dogs we would travel 3-4 times a year, ever since we have gotten our bully and our adopted pound puppy we have not gone anywhere:aww: Still looking for a dog sitter we can trust. I love our dogs though and would never give them up, ever.

Yeah... we don't travel as often as we'd like to. Bout two quick trips to Vegas and maybe one bigger one each year. Accompanied by LOTS of hand-wringing. We just found a sitter we could trust this year and she did great. So we may be able to sneak away more. My kids live with their mom so it's never a big deal leaving them. But we used to board our dogs and we just don't have the heart to dump them off at a strange place to be caged-up for days anymore. If they gotta go without us taking care of them for a few days, at least they get to do it in their home with a doggie door to their yard and that part of their life stays normal. Every time we'd bring them back from the boarder's before, they have diahrea and other abandonment issues. And keep in-mind that this boarder is our vet clinic and a state of the art facility with a "surgeon" that did our akita's TPLO surgery. So it's not like it was a shabby dump!

Damn dogs... who owns WHO in this relationship???

Gotta love Boston Terriers...I had one and this gif is definitely a glimpse as to what they're like   :

That's AWESOME!!!

I used to have a Boston as a kid and she was a sweetie. Friend's got one now and when I get my face within ten feet of her she leaps to my face and kisses it all over. :scared:

So many beautiful dogs guys!

When I first joined, I posted about my little guy Loki (He was 8 weeks old at the time) and now he's six months old and I'm shocked at just how much he has grown already. He loves everybody and has a great temperament. He has to go for the snip soon though :(

Here he is two months ago:

And even in a month (End of July) he's 45 pounds!

Loving this thread. I just recently moved into my first house. Have been insanely busy with that actually. But yeah, my girlfriend and I are going to be getting a Siberian Husky puppy soon. I have had dogs my whole life except for this past year, I am now ready for my own.

Congrats man. A Husky or a Golden Retriever are next on the list for my girlfriend and I.

Some great dogs in this thread. She is doing really well so far. I need a lot of work on leash training. Never had to work at it with my pugs, they just walked with me and loved it. I am taking her to kids soccer practice today so she will enjoy that for sure!
