AWESOME :D
Don't be making up!!!
This was gonna be my reading for when I get home from dinner with the inlaws tonight. :gethim:

Not my kind of amp...but then again any amp that gets that kind of gain isn't my cup of tea...I'm sure you already know that. ;)

It does plexi and just breaking up cleans very well as well, I know you would dig the amp if you were behind the guitar with Mike tweaking :)

Sorry I ruined you Reading time lol :hys:

That sounded pretty tight but I agree with a couple other guys....it's too brittle/shrill on the high end. I tend to like warmer tones even for the brootz.

Thanks for listening!!! With that said
Im thinking a lot of the brightness is comming from the speakers. Both cabs are brand spanking new loaded with new v30's that are definitely not broken in.

While the clip didn't blow me away, I get the feeling it's more than likely just the recording and not the actual amp itself as I've heard "online clips" of some amps that sound meh but in the room the amp sounds amazing. ;) That said, judging by what sounds like a well-recorded clip of a Fortin I'd LOVE to try one out in person someday:

The difference proper recording makes is HUGE, the one above (Bones model I believe?) sounds phenomenal so I get the feeling the Meathead is just as nice so I'd love to see something a little better-recorded come out soon. :D

Thanks highgain510 for the kind words here ... :)

The quest for the ultimate tone .... interesting topic ... kind of like chasing rainbows.

First off ... I will DEFEND the guys here who are actually making less than positive comments about the Meathead clip ... I dig where you fellows are coming from ... here's the deal:

The Meathead is quite possibly the most versatile and powerful amp to hit the market ... EVER.

While this Meathead clip sounds great ... it is also "not my cup of tea" either! ... !!! And I LOVE the Meathead! The amp is capable of a wide array of tones. You can dial in YOUR sound ... and the amp will favor your tonal quest ... be it a bright cutting metal tone to a very fender-like clean jangle.

Personally, I have always been after a tone that falls between Eric Johson and Eddie Van Halen ... and not a "modern metal" tone as displayed with this particular clip. It does seem that Mike favors modern metal tones based on the clips posted on his MySpace and his website. (will have to talk to him about that!)

In the clip highgain510 post of me playing the Bones ... I would say that tone is pretty far away from the Meathead clip ... (realize the Bones is channels 3-4 of the Meathead) What is AMAZING here ... is that the Meathead can go from the tone of my clip to the tone of this Meathead clip! All in one amp!!!! Find me another amp like that!

Please note I have been working with Mike since he started the company ... I have seen the dedication to quality first hand. Rest assured he is making some truly great amps!!! While the Meathead might not be for everyone, you can get everyone's tone in one 6 channel monster!

Hey Carl, I agree with your thoughts 100% in that the Meathead is not just there to play modern metal. If that is what you crave then the upcoming Natas would be your cup of tea, the Meathead is there to support your entire pallet of tone thoughts. Then again if you dig both the Bones and Natas then you are better off buying the big kuhuna itself and calling it a day.

Send me a Meathead... I'll do some videos with all the channels and then send the amp back when I'm done (bwahaha... yeah, sure, I'll send it back).

I think the tone would work well in a band context with bass and drums. I liked it!

Agreed, throw some good sounding drums and a fat bass tone behind it, double track, and you'll have modern heaviness.

I was thinking the same thing.

I can't say enough good things about Mike and I love my Cali mod plexi but that clip wasn't really 'happenin' for me.
It's probably because it's a bit too heavy and I'm not really into that type of stuff.
I'll be making some more 'rockish' clips soon to demonstrate the versatility of Mike's mod.
P90's > Fortin Cali mod = :inlove:

I know some guys here love your fortin amps, I love the clips myself( cuz I don't have one yet).
But you guys have to admit that meathead clip sounds kinda shrill.
And you can hear the "squish" in the pick attack, I know some people like their tone very compressed, but I absolutely hate it, lol.
It sounds like my peavey rockmaster when I boost it with an OD (not a good idea).
But I'm leaning on the side of the "not-dialed-right" camp, I think Mike needs to do more clips that show off what else this amp can do.
And when the NATAS comes out I'm definitely gonna drive down there and experience his amps in person, I'm fairly positive I'll be blown away.

...so many chicken heads...so little time.

That green is just too damn cool. My Irish bride would actually approve of me buying even more gear in that case!

The Bones is in transit across the Atlantic somewhere  Should have got Mike to cover the head in green tolex...

Im pretty sure the shrillness is comming from the new speakers. I was told that Dave just bought those cabs and they arent broken in yet. Ive listened to the clip on various computers and on my home PC with JBL's and I can definitely hear what everyone is saying about the high end although I still like the clip and know how crushing that would be in a mix double or quad tracked. I have played this amp in person and I know what it is capable of doing, so I guess I have to take that into consideration when I judge a clip lol. As far as the compression you are hearing I can say with 100% conviction that this amp is one of the most open sounding amps ive played especially for having as much gain as it does. Im thinking that Youtube definitely compressed the hell out of it. I also hope that people take this into context in that this is only one channel of 6. The tonal possibilities are endless IMHO! I not speaking for Mike but I think he wanted to show how heavy sounding this amp can get. What I really love is that you have people who love Fortin amps who don't really like the clip and I think that is amazingly cool because at least you know there is no BS going on lol.

Im pretty sure that Mike will have more clips of this beast and Im pretty sure they will show more of what this thing can do!!

all in all I think all the feedback has been great good bad and ugly lol

Steve

I have plenty of green tolex left if you want to arrange something with Mike!

The Meathead gets AWESOME clean tones!!! I was really blown away by the cleans channels 1-2 ... awesome stuff.

For those of you that have not had the privilege of playing the amp ... the main thing to understand is the amp can get many different tones:

Channels 1-2: From crystal clean to a bit of grit ...
Channels 3-4: Bones : super-duper Marshall-esque tones ... more open than 5-6, tight, quick
Channels 5-6: Super High Gain: Great for violin-esque solos ... more compressed

This is an el-quicko wrap on the amp ... also realize that you have 3 voicings PER channel ... L/M/H ... and those voicings GREATLY change the tone ... dial in per taste.

You can not "judge" this amp based on one clip. Not possible ... you need as least SIX clips! LOL.

Thanks for posting the clip. I was wanting to hear this amp and I can't wait to hear/possibly buy the NATAS.

FWIW, I love my VH4 and 95% of the clips I hear of it I don't like at all. I know how it sounds at home and in my band though and that's what really matters. I hear the potential in this clip but it's just not how I would dial it in. How close would you say this tone is to the NATAS?

From that clip it kinda reminds me of a MUCH sharper sounding VH4. The way the single notes punch through when playing them is very similar to a VH4, has that great punch like the VH4 has on single notes. Pretty good, I could dig it for sure. I'd probably set it up a little more tame on the high end with a little more mid, little too static-y on the high end, could be the cab being new as was said though for sure.

Damn like four posts went up before I got mine in there that said pretty much what I was about to say.
