Well, I did some soldering work and got paid with a Duncan Jazz neck pickup. I've found my 59 to be a little to muddy and bloated. I think the Jazz will be the right fit for the job. What do you guys think? Is the Jazz just a brighter and clearer 59? Is that the right score?

It's brighter and more clear, but it also has a little less output. Give it a shot, though. You might dig it.

I thought the jazz is sterile sounding. Much prefer a 59. But thus is in s superstrat w floyd.
Yeah, this is going in a hunk of mahogany, so I think the 59 was too much. I think thinner and bitier might do the trick.

Bezo is giving away free pickups!!!
I'll pay it forward. If you want to put the pickup in, I'll have a lightly used 59 up for grabs.

You'll have to rewire the 5-way super switch though. I got the schematic.

I want to try this unicorn jazz bridge model a friend told me about….

you'll be very happy with the Jazz 2 in the neck. only pup i find better is a super D in the neck

I procrastinated on this job until today because I knew the weather was going to be shit. Sure enough, all I did today was fix guitars and shovel snow. Well, and do laundry... and meal prep... anyways.

I dropped the Jazz in place of a 59 in one of my Jarretts and did a bit of a shootout between the two Forzas. Where the 59 was midheavy and honky, the Jazz was brighter and clearer. Everything else is the same between those two guitars, so it was a good apples to apples comparison. The Jazz is the way to go in that guitar. The Jazz was much more articulate and clearer.

Then I got out my LTD H400 with a JB and a 59 in it and compared, and that guitar was a bit clearer. I wonder how much the pickup covers are the culprit. I have another JB and Jazz set coming for the other Forza, and this time I'm going straight zebra instead of gold covers. That will be the shootout for next weekend, is covered vs uncovered.

The other thing I noticed is the LTD had a 1 meg pot where the Jarretts had 500ks. Since I had my iron on already, I dropped a 1 meg pot in the Jarrett that just got the Jazz and it helped a little. I got a little more oomph and brightness out of it, but not much.

Lastly, all my guitars are getting the switches wired the same way. The blades are all 5 way super switches with the same wiring and settings. That's more for me and my playing though, and not for science.

All in all, I approve. It was worth it.

If you're not jiving with the 59 as is you can always experiment with magnet swaps. It's a pretty easy and cheap way to tweak the pickup tone a little.
