IDK, if it were me, I'd sell both the BE and the Slax. It sounds like you like the JEL the best out of those two and that the three of them aren't all that different. Then, I'd think about adding something that was different than the JEL or EVH, maybe a Mesa DR or Mark, or a Bogner Uber, or something from Diezel or Wizard. That way, you'd have three different sounding amps that would be capable of getting close to what your target is.

The JEL doesn't get quite as thick or angry as the Slax and lacks some of the BE's versatility but it does cover a lot of it for sure. I wouldn't mind having a Mark VII.

Completely unscientific comparisons but it is how they sound to me in the room. SG > amp > Fryette PS100 > IR.

1st, Slax channel 1 then BE channel 2 (it gets closer). https://jumpshare.com/s/mxTmTIiJCrSrTWrkC3Jw
1st, Slax channel 3 then HBE. https://jumpshare.com/s/dPxCgGpu2ClS7wVAwKCn
1st, JEL JCM channel with sat switch on then EVH blue then EVH red. https://jumpshare.com/s/ZNKwnaSWhV3rm2Sjzo2n

I have the matching Slax cab and if I stick with it, I'm changing out the G12H's, not a fan. Dave says V30's would do well with it. Kind of want to get some CV75's for it, they're a favorite of mine.

The EVH is in second, I'm pretty surprised, I thought it'd be the most popular of the three, then the Slax, then the BE last. Playing them so much, someone could make anything with any of them really. I have the matching cabs for the EVH and Slax, might just go based on that alone. lol

I think all the amps you mentioned are different animals, but equally great. As for the EVH 5153, I definitely prefer the Stealth model for better distortion quality and tone. However, I voted for the Butterslax because if it's uniqueness and character. It doesn't to clean but has amazing distortion, tight low end, and can cover the spectrum of classic metal, rock, and modern metal. It has a lot of distortion but never sounds bad.

I think the Butterslax is too overlooked as a lead amplifier. In my opinion, it has sort of a Diezel VH4 channel 3 thing going on - not that it sounds like a Diezel, but in that it's one of the best amplifiers for soloing. It has abundant mids, and reacts to pick attack swiftly with low-mid punchiness. You won't get tired of noodling all day and night on searing, liquid solos. It also delivers great tone across it's gain range. Some amps lose something when the gain is lower, other amps get too saturated, but the Butterslax is kind of a marvel. It has more gain than you'll need but never sounds too gainy in my opinion. I don't know how Dave Friedman does it but, among all his world-class amps, I find the Butterslax to be quite impressive.

I agree, it really is a fantastic amp. The EVH is the Stealth. I had the first 50 watt white one and it was good but the Stealth is nice. So of the three, you'd sell the BE then?

Whatever goes, I'm going to capture it with the Helix Stadium before it does. With the Stadium (and any modeler really) in mind, I'm positive way more EVH captures are coming than BE Deluxe and definitely Butterslax captures are. I told myself when I got the Stadium that I'd start moving to all digital but in no shape nor fashion did that happen.

I always wondered that too. I think it's a seriously great amp. The only reason this comes up for me is because I have the others.

Dave has settings for the BE that can get it in the ballpark but it's still different. Besides some girth and gain on the 3rd channel of the Slax, channels 2 being more similar, the differences are mostly in the first channels. The Butterslax channel 1 is thicc and can get a seriously incredible hard rock tone. The BE's doesn't get as fat (even with the fat switch on) or go as far. The differences between them starts to melt away when played against like an EVH or Rockerverb. That's not to say the differences don't matter or they deserve to go over the EVH.

Anyone who voted EVH, I'd love to hear why! Even with the Friedman's being similar, I think they're both extremely cool amps. The BE with lots of tone control and the Slax, cool and that oughta be legendary first channel.
I use the 5150 III S 100 6l6 live
Almost always . Consistent great .
How much for butterslax ?

I've mostly decided to keep it since I have the matching cab and you know, it's awesome but if you'd like to message over an offer, I'd at least think about it.

Sell all of them and get something else.
I'm with VB. I don't care for any of those amps.

That said, I'd sell the one you play the least. Regardless of what it covers/doesn't cover.
That tells the story IMO.

I’m such a weirdo I love all high gain tube amps amps . Love ne a blue voodoo even . Wish I could keep them all . But that’s not feedeable for me . But your right . Sounds like BE is that amp for him

Nothing wrong with the Blue Voodoo. I played one of those way back and I liked it. I'm jealous that you've played the Slax.

Shit. The Vibrolux sounds killer in the 2 demos I've watched.

I've not quite decided I'll die and never be in a band ever again so far. I record them and stream with them and prefer them to modelers even if that currently make more sense.
That does make sense because I hate modeling gear and digital equipment. You love your JEL-50. Why not just buy a 2nd one as backup then? I guess if you are trying to be versatile it doesn't make sense but if the JEL-50 is "my sound" then it seems like the best possible move.

Once a man gets a nice, healthy Fender tube amp...his real journey has begun.
I didn't think a guy with a love for high wattage rock music oriented amp heads would have any interest in Fender tube amps but it seems I might've been wrong. Early SF Fender Twin is the cheapest way to have vintage Fender goodness, provided you have a capable tech. The vibrolux is a great amp though.
