I’m not that across Fryette’s history - why was the OG discontinued?

I know that he started the company VHT and then a chinese company wanted to buy it. I guess they just bought the name, but not the designs...did he ever make an Ultralead after that?

The market for full size heads has been dead for everyone for many years.

Crazy how all the people who make great sounding amps seem to make lots of amps still
In my opinion, a lot of the boutique amp builders don't have a lot of front of mind presence. Even Soldano. I think even with him making the "Greatest Amp Ever" no one really knew who the fuck he was til Bad bought it. I would love to see the sales from 1989-2019 for soldano vs then to present from bad.

Discontinued in 2017. All models Discontinued for the same reson. Lack of sales. The market for full size heads has been dead for everyone for many years.
This was my assumption, but was unsure if there were other factors. It begs the question, why would he re-release a product that proved non-viable?

I see there’s a few interested parties in this thread, but surely Fryette has figured out trying something different has a better chance of success.

I don’t think this can be reasonably compared to things like the C+, SLO or any Marshall reissue. Their longterm popularity is hard to deny.

This is very true.. I have never really thought of it in these terms. It seems like so many people complain about the weight of a head. They complain about the volume of a 50+ watt.

To me, this is all so ridiculous, i have written it off as people that don't really like playing guitar.

But it is a movement. I have never lifted a guitar head and thought it was heavy. I just move it from where it is to where it needs to go. I think we have grown too soft

I moreso meant the vanillas. My dad is a huge van halen fan. He is a huge fan of most of that list. He played guitar and drums in bands for years. He had never heard of Soldano.

I think the vanillas know mesa and peavey, and they (the non obsessed guitarists) are the ones that really make the market profitable

Some of us just got old and still gig. In the 90’s my rig was 5 4-12’s, 3 Marshall heads, rack and a jazz chorus for cleans. 2000’s 2 heads and 2 412’s. 20teens 1 head and 2 2-12’s…now mostly one head and 1 212. If this UL 2 sounds good I woukd happily swap out the current Wizard head for the much lighter UL. 2 space rack as a headshell. Still probably use a cab, but maybe the ir thing would be cool direct, never tried that.
Most players around here don’t even use amps, just a modeler pedal direct. Sounds like it too.
