I just checked the local Craigslist and there is an Ax FX Ultra that just went up that is version 11 with a fan upgrade! $2,000!

Hope this latest Fractal release doesn't make my JTM45 obsolete.

The nice thing about tube amps is that they've been obsolete for 40 years. We have nothing to worry about.

True. What makes me laugh though are the people that buy exact copies of 50 year old technology with a new logo for three times the price. They're almost as ignorant as the people who buy brand new technology, then sit around and bitch until the firmware updates come out.

I can understand why some are irritated about just purchasing an AxeFx only to find out a new one just came out. Here are a few things to think about though....

- It's a business. If they say, "Hey, we have a new product that comes out in 2 months that smokes what we're selling now and it's pretty close in price." Guess what's going to happen? They're going to have 2 months of terrible sales. Yeah that sucks for the person who just bought one, but what business wants to create competition for themselves?
- I don't understand the notion, "They should have given us more warning." Well if they gave everyone a heads up two months ago, there still would be people who just bought an Ultra or Standard getting all pissed off saying "they should have given us more warning".
-And to completely beat a dead horse...it's tech equipment. This is to be expected. I imagine the only reason it hasn't happened sooner is because the Ultra & Std have been ahead of the curve so long. It probably gave Cliff some breathing room to really put out a what will hopefully be a significant upgrade.

+ 100000, that seems so obvious to me...

So, let's give people what they want : BE CAREFUL, within 5 years, the Axe FX III will be released, don't buy the II now !

Great points. Reminds me of the recent Two Rock thread on the TGP, where Two Rock lowered their prices on some amps. Some people were really upset by them lowering their prices, which I found funny. I mean if Two Rock raises their prices, everyone things they are being greedy and sticking it to their customers. With them lowering prices the existing Two Rock customers feel like they overpaid and/or that their value of their current amps dropped. Can't please everyone.

My only quibble in the Axe-Fx2 release is that if it were me, I would have Beta testers of the Axe-Fx II sign something that says they will not sell their current units until the official release date.

This is quite funny. Fractal is not anything like Apple. Apple does offer an upgrade incentive for their iPhones, every year when a new model comes out (which customers know about in advance) you have the option to upgrade for $200 (the price of a new one with a new contract) and add a year to your contract. If you bought the previous model within 30 days of the new one being released it is a free upgrade. Just putting that out there... Also, Best Buy's buy-back program is absolute shit, have fun getting the equivalent of a pawn shop's offer for your stuff. It makes no sense for Fractal to offer any service like this for Standard/Ultra customers that bought recently. Why? So they can have a boatload of outdated units sitting around? I suppose they could sell them as "factory refurbished," but the company is really small and it's more dangerous for them, business-wise, to do that than to just say those users are SOL.

I know someone who ordered an Ultra not but a few days ago (before the announcement of the 2) and G66 told them they had to pay an extra 600 Euro because they do not have any Standards or Ultras in stock and the only units they will be shipping out next will be the AxeFX II. May not be the case for a US distributor though.

Although all I can think about is Juggernauts avatar...

I'm not sure how shiet goes down in Texas but here in Canada try getting your hardware upgrade through your provider without sucking some serious ... And even then, your signing a new 3 year to get that term price, sooooo

Also, I picked up the black mac book a while back in the month of August and the new line of Apple macbooks came out the following september, looked around, called around, was never offered anything.

Once again to offer the disclaimer, I don't know how things work in Texas with this stuff, but you're way off in terms of the reality of a company losing cash and having stock piles of refurbished shit because the new and improved product has come out.

Note this thing isn't out yet. It probably will have long waiting lists before anybody gets it. I doubt they have a couple thousand units lined up at launch – paper launches are all the rage these days.

And yes, that's what you get with digital technology. New today, old tomorrow. The value is in the software, really. Although I'm not the Axe FX's biggest fan, it's kinda nice in the way that it fucks over those collectors... "Let me buy 10, and sit on them for a number of years".

I wonder how hard it would be to reverse-engineer them and run on a RTOS, or by aid of an ordinary graphics card to do some serious computation. I don't buy that the hardware is so special... It's like Apple, just a way to tie software to a nice and convenient box to ensure people shell out for something physical – it's much harder to get people to pay up for "abstract" software they can't actually touch. Plus, it's a lot more difficult to illegally download physical objects.

Now, let's see what sort of astronomically high price they come up with for Europe...

Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and everyone is entitled to construe what they perceive to be an angle, attitude or proposition. I do have to say that the direct communications I'd had with Cliff and Tom, most notably with regards to my seemingly irreverant posts, went very well. If I may say, I think they liked the fact they were dealing with someone with a strong, defensible and fairly well articulated stance on matters. Not that seeking their, or anyone's for that matter, approval is my M.O., I'm just glad I cleared the air with those two. Makes the rest of the derogatory backlash that much more irrelevant.

Speaking of which, I must have about 10 new PM's in my inbox over on the Fractal site - of the ones I've looked at, they're all saying "thanks for saying what you've said, that took balls, I'm surprised you're still allowed on here, but wow, ya, a lot of us feel like you do but we've never had the chance to say it like you have". I say "sad". A public forum where people are fearful of speaking their minds. Isn't the true nature of advancement and evolution stepping laterally off the beaten path and forging anew??

Whatever, Kool Aid is in definite supply over there, and the imbibement of choice most certainly. I'll lurk from here on in, and ya, I'm buying a new Axe-II, primarily because I hopped time zones last night when the news came out and got full pop for mine less the $100 shipping cost. No problems. I'm on for the new Axe-II and I like the fact it's USB and headphone able. Those 2 additions make it well worth the upheaval, and the re-purchase.
