If you bought one to use for music and it does everything you want, other than the resale value it shouldn't seem like too bad a thing as long as you get out of the axe fx what you bought it for. I know it sucks about the resale value likely going down some, but I doubt it'll be that low.

You want to buy my Pentium 2?

I knew there would be a bunch of guys pissed off. Technology likes this take a HUGE nosedive when it's obsolete. I'm looking forward to watching how low the prices will go.
I might pick up a standard if they start coming available for $5-600. :)

Hell yeah. I didn't want an Axe because it would mean selling my tube amps, but if I could get a Standard for under a grand, I would definitely do it and still keep the amps.

I kind of doubt they'll get that low, but maybe. I think the used standard's pricing will hold up better than the ultras.

We'll see. Someone already said they bought a Standard for $1200, and that was before the announcement. So it could happen.

Yay...finally might be able to grab a Standard to toy with :-)
That's what I was thinkin too. But these people on evilbay must be nuts! Their BIN prices on the the Standard and Ultra are close to new prices!

Must be the supply/demand factor, or maybe a lot of people don't realize there's a new Axe yet?

I think maybe a bit of each will help initial sellers.

I'll wait a few months to see how much hype surrounds the Axe II. If it is positive then the Standard and Ultra will plummet in price. I will buy a Standard if they hit around $400 to $450. I would feel great about paying that to simply have as a home recording tool.

The glaring difference between your Pentium 2 and the Axe Fx is the Axe is a piece of music gear that emulates guitar tones and has been lauded as already being able to sound very close to many tube amps as well as having extremely high quality effects, and that won't change because there is a newer model coming out whereas the Pentium 2 isn't going to handle some major programs I use a computer for.

If the axe fx is as good as has been claimed, the new one apparently shouldn't be able to sound that much better, though I can definitely see some of the newer features being a good reason to want to upgrade.

I'm loving the amount of butt hurt going around over this. For a piece of tech (and it is just a piece of tech after all) to go 5 years with no hardware upgrades is unheard of. Just look at cell phones, computers, ect.. The top of the line item only stays top of the line for a few months to a year at the most. Axe had a run of 5 years with no upgrades. You had to know it was coming soon as it was long overdue. It's not like your Ultra's are suddenly not going to work. If you can't handle a piece of tech becoming obsolete eventually, don't buy it. Yeah, it sucks for all the people that just bought an Ultra, but that's just life and part of buying gadgets.

I'm amazed at people expecting a refund or exchange for their Ultra's now. Do you see Apple exchanging and refunding people when a new iPhone comes out? It just doesn't happen. I know high tech gadgets are pretty new in guitar land, but this is just the way things work. Basically as soon as you by something, it's already obsolete. When you buy a piece of tech, you have do it knowing that a new and improved one could come out at any time. And besides, it's not like this came out of nowhere. A new Axe model has been rumored for many months now.

Best post of the thread! Well said...... well said.

Considering how much money Fractal are making and how there isn't really - that - much competition, unlike Best Buy, I don't think they're in a position where they feel they have to employ an upgrade policy.

Yes, I might too...

They will hit 4o0 but I don't know if it will take a couple years to get that low.

This looks awesome, a couple of features they added I think really was needed. I'm in, can't wait.

Or best offer.

That's amazing. Me things someone is looking for quick cash to get a new II. Yep, looks like the AxeFX didn't quite cure amp gas. ;)

DONT PANIC!!!

Everyone will sell thier ultra's and buy the new AXE-II version...

Soon after everyone will say it sucks and that the previous version (aka axe-ultra) was better...

They will as and ponder "Why did Fractal even bother to change anything?" yadda yadda, etc.

People will then realize that they should have kept thier ultra's and will sell off thier new AXE-II's to go back to the no longer made "vintage Ultra versions" and this will drive the prices of the Ultra's to be much more than a brand new AXE-II

Happens every time...

Anyway I totaly don't even want an Axe-Fx because I heard they have a "fixed bias" from the factory and that no one has been able to come up with an "adjustable bias mod" for it as of yet...

I know someone who bought one for $850 more than a month ago.

And if all the guys out there who own an Axe-Fx are happy with it they should ignore the hype, don't read into or think you need the Axe-2.  But come one, we ALL know that's not how guitar players think. :D
