Full mix clip of a BAT modded JMP2203 vs. stock w/ a Chiron

I've got one of @FourT6and2 's Bay Area Thrash mods on a '79, decided to see how it'd reamp to one of my songs. The way this one is set up it still has a stock input as well so I was able to compare the mod to stock boosted with a Chiron (klone). Anyway, check it out.

Note: I change a lot of the circuit, so while the low-gain input you have on your amp does bypass some of the additional gain stages, the voicing of the rest of the circuit is no longer a stock Marshall sound.

Also it takes a boost really well while plugged into the modded input

The recording was at 100dB.

The MV works, I can get garage & gigging volumes without any trouble, but maybe not bedroom volumes. That said it gets loud AF real fast. Far more volume than I would ever need for a gig. I did play it last weekend at an outdoor show.

If whomever changed things since I modded it didn't already do so, add a 1,000pF bright cap to the gain control

I tried that, it helped the stock input quite a bit, gave it more gain and clank, but it made the BAT input excessively noisy.

Gotta lift the V1b grid wire up off the chassis floor if you add a bright cap.

Recorded the BAT comparo today vs the GOAT IIB+ and the DR RI. Just deciding if I want to use the boosted or straight in DR. (everything else is straight in)

I’d say the Recto boosted would put it in the same territory as the BAT.

Boost the BAT! It takes boosts really well, espeically something like a Fortin Grind.
