Brand new baby robins. Not rare, but right outside the front door in the Japanese MapleIndigo Bunting. Don’t see tons of them. View attachment 445611
Indigo Buntings are really colorful, but I've always liked the coloration on Painted Buntings. I have a nature themed tattoo on my calf with one incorporated into the design.Indigo Bunting. Don’t see tons of them. View attachment 445611
We should be having baby Barn Swallows (I think) pretty soon. A mating pair built a nest on the front porch column about 5-6 years back and come back to the same spot every year. We don't mess with the nest and they end up reusing it every year.Brand new baby robins. Not rare, but right outside the front door in the Japanese Maple

Yep. Red Belly. If you want more and different varieties get a suet cage. Bucheits and farm and home regularly sell 10 packs of suet for around $9. There you’ll get a lot of downeys, hairys, red heads and red bellys. We got all those and a bunch of Pileateds too. These pics are about a week old. The last is a woodpecker obviously.

Squirrel baffles work bro. Trust me.Thanks for your post @Floyd Eye
I took that pic because I saw your red bellied woodpecker pic not too long ago. But this one is more an a nuisance. He hogs all the food and likes to test our house for peckibility. I usually make a lot of noise and shew him awasy.![]()
My wife just told me that what you see there is actually suet nuggets. She likes that better than seed because seed gets everywhere. She does have some suet cakes out front. See my post in the Post Your Hosta's thread. She also told me she is now buying Hot Pepper Suet because the squirrels don't like it but the birds do.
we have baffles and lots of trees here - not as much as you I'm sure. Once a year he pecks on the side of the house and then realizes he's in the wrong place and leaves. I think it is the same bird every year. Hangs out here for maybe a month and then I don't know where he goes.Squirrel baffles work bro. Trust me.
Woodpeckers don’t really peck holes in houses too often. Cedar siding sometimes if they’re looking to build a nest. Almost always it’s dead trees. I guess being in a suburban neighborhood you’re more susceptible to that. Here they stick to trees.
Anyone interested in woodpeckers should check out PBS for a documentary called “ Woodpeckers, the hole truth”. It’s an hour long and very cool.
They will “ drum” to announce themselves to other woodpeckers too.we have baffles and lots of trees here - not as much as you I'm sure.
