Throw a Yngwie pre-wired guard in there!!! Yeah I know about the hum you said in the bridge :D

It will not sound like a LP, but hopefully it will have a nice mids thing going for you. I am willing to bet you will like the neck.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to that if I could find one. I may do a 2/3 Yngwie, and just put a Custom 5 in the bridge. Better just get it and play it a bit first.

Agreed on all points. It's all just personal taste. I always try to love Superstrats but i end up usually going back to a Les Paul or something similiar. This forum would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

Your love/hate between superstrats and Les Pauls is the exact opposite of mine. :D I love the way Les Pauls look and I have owned probably 15-20 of them.... but I just don't dig much else about them. I still have the 1980 LP Custom I got new from my parents. It's the guitar I grew up on. I even owned John Norum's '70 or '71 Gold Top for 5 or 6 years. The one Mark Cameron said is the greatest Les Paul he has ever heard. Meh. Didn't sound that great to me.

But besides Sykes.... ALL my favorite tones were done by guys on superstrats.

I am a PAF style pickup in a superstrat into a boosted Super Lead type of guy. You are a Gibson into a Boogie MKII sort of guy. Your idea of cool tone is one I like to listen to but not one I like to play through. That's probably mutual too.

So you keep looking for a super strat that will do what you want it to do and I'll keep looking for a Les Paul that will do what I want it to do and we'll probably be able to have this exact same discussion in 20 years.

I've never had an alder bodied guitar that sounded any good. Busted out my old 76 LP Custom and been having a blast with it. Even has a JB in the bridge. :)

Dude, alder rules. It's my favorite tone wood even if it is the most common, boring and affordable wood used. I have bad luck with other wood or wood combos. Maybe I'm just used to it, but I have a mahogany super strat and recently had a hard ash one and a couple of basswood/maple combos and none of them sounded as good as what I am used to. Different Strokes baby.

Danny is just in denial, his type of playing demands a guitar that is made for players with access and not some 50 year old design that sucks for stuff beyond Cinderella covers

Now with a baby on the way I suspect that a Dumble copy amp is on the way for Dan

Nah, i just demand a guitar that sounds good, that's why i own 2 Gibsons. :D

I have a Korina PRS McCarty that smacks every paul I've ever played around tone-wise. :) But when you're talking about tone, it's all a matter of opinion.

Have they ever made Korina Les Pauls? THAT would be killer IMHO... Korina is one of my favorite sounding woods (every korina guitar I've played sounded good) and it's fairly light too. My McCarty above is a solid guitar with no 'holes' drilled in it and it weighs 6.2 pounds.

How anyone can hear a Les Paul and not hear just how much better it is than everything else is beyond comprehension. Those pointy ibanez/jackson toy guitars with wang bars may play well (to girly men), but yikes. Talk about a wimpy tone.

Les Pauls = :2thumbsup:

Thanks Thump! You couldn't have proved my point any better! Look at how pissed Eddie is when he is stuck with that Les Paul. Give him a superstrat and this is what he looks like

Thats why he started drinking.....he probably had good tone with the LP.....from VH1 on his tone sucked.

He looks pretty happy here with this '58 or '59. Wonder if he still has it?

Les Pauls make women do that. Another reason they're better. :D

How Eddie could not hear how superior his tone was with that Les Paul is beyond comprehension. I mean right after he plugged that in, he sold all his superstrats, switched to Les Pauls permanently and has never looked back.

Aaahh the "special" model. So they get like the extra $1000.00 for a neck pickup?

FWIW, i was never a huge fan of Eddies tone. Sure i like it, but it was never my favorite. I like a heavy tone like Schenker since i was always into metal bands of the 80's like Maiden, Dio, Priest, etc. It was all the fag hair bands who happened to be sporting Charvels that i was never into. :D ;) Oh, except for George Lynch........and Jake E Lee.......and....maybe a few more. :)

I almost forgot. Eddie did in fact dump all his older guitars at one point and had Ernie Ball make him a guitar that had a curiously similiar shape to a Les Paul. Things that make you go HHHMMMMMMMM.  ;)

and not alder either. :)

Yet once Viv in Dio and Adrian in Maiden put their hands on Charvels for the first time, they dropped their Gibsons and Ibanez Destroyers and Hamer Standards like hot potatoes. I mean, anyone who can't hear how much better their owned and used for years Gibsons sounded than these new guitars they had to have is beyond comprehension. ;)

Similar to a Les Paul? I'm looking at a Music Man Axis right now next to some Les Pauls and if by similar you mean that they both have strings and frets, well then yeah, I'd say they ARE curiously similar. ;) I'm not going to argue looks because I think Les Pauls are perfect looking instruments. The MM? Not so much.
