Yeah, but you said EVH had crappy tone and that you dislike alder. Eddie didn't choose alder. Must mean alder sounds killer.

I thought his older beat up Boogie body guitars were Swamp Ash?

And Maiden never sounded better than this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Tb8Jo11uGo No superstrats in sight. :D ;)

This is turning into a great :poke: thread!

I think his old guitars were ash of some type. The guys on the Metro board, who are totally obsessed with this, seem to think the first album was probably recorded with the '65 strat (which would have been alder) with a humbucker and different neck and that the black and white striped guitar became his main guitar right around then but wasn't done in time to be used on the album. Who knows? I'm not really that big of an EVH freak. George will probably chime in and say that even Eddie with his crappy tone decided that alder was even crappier sounding than the crappy wood he would use for his next few crappy albums full of crappy tone.

This is turning into a great :poke: thread and I'm having fun with it. And look, no racist comments or death threats or karate beatdown challenges yet. But we can always pull those out if we need them.

Overlooked was Scott's great quote about Les Pauls only being good for playing Cinderella covers. I :hys: at that one.

No he has crappy tone! Make no mistake there! He looks like a white buckwheat in the last LP pic...

Honestly the best sounding guitar I have is a 82 USA Epiphone single pickup SG......it's swamp ash. The 2nd best was my 82 Flying V which was swamp ash with a maple top.

I've never had any alder guitars that sounded right....

Ever seen them live? Doesn't sound like it. They're incredible.

Actually danyeo, I think all your last post did was smoke out the only real Cinderella fan on this board. One of your Gibson allies in this thread.

I saw Cinderella. Did...... uh...... not that many bands go through St. Louis in the 80's?

I think the skin in your fingers has negative dermal qualities which negate the superior alder tone. Plus it's too cold where you live. Alder refuses to put in a full days work when it's that cold. And then it hates mosquitos in the summer. Alder is just really not happy in the midwest. I can understand you having better luck with some of the dumber, more easily satisfied wood species back there. :D

You had to go there didnt ya!! I'm sending a care package your way. Sounds like you need some midwestern termites for all that alder kindlin' !!

No thanks George. We have plenty of termites. Just hardly any mosquitos. Let's put it this way..... in 22 years of living in California I have been bitten by mosquitos less times than I used to get bitten in one night in Illinois. And that is why alder sounds good in my hands. My blood and skin are not West Nile virus, dengue fever and malaria tainted.

I just ran a reverse Google people look up search and it turns out that jasonP is really Jeff LeBar. So unfortunately his vote for his own band does not count and the current legitimate count of Cinderella fans on RT remains at 1. :gethim:

Say what you want but Tom Keifer's tone from his '59 is absolutely angelic.

SgtThump":2maxrau0 said:
Of course they did!!! They put on a kick ass rock show! That Tom Keifer jumps from piano, to lap steel, to saxaphone, to harmonica, to most guitar leads, all while singing. He's a hell of a musician.

The guys that like the blues based hard rock usually really dig Cinderella. You just have to get past the gay ass name and hair styles they had back then. :)

No hard rock musician should ever play an instrument that requires placing it in their own mouth. With the possible exception of Rudy Sarzo. :D

Guys who like blues based hard rock USUALLY really like Cinderella? Yeah, I feel that most blues based rock fans normally place Cinderella in the same league as your Zeppelins and Creams and Humble Pie's, Free's, Bad Company's, ZZ Tops, Hendrix's early Aerosmith's etc.

Thump brother........ you don't work without a respirator in a glue factory do you?

Just kidding man! All in good fun! :D

A guitar buddy and me went to see them at the Myth. They came out with "Night Songs" and I acutally never heard of Cinderella before that night but I'll tell you, I will never forget the tone and groove. You could see the hotplates light bright as hell. Seriously though one of the best concerts I've ever seen. The guitar tone was fuckin smoking that night.
