I saw YJM live for the first time back in September.

30 Marshall heads and at least 20 cabs. The band is shoved into a corner of the stage the size of an apartment kitchen.

The man is an absolute beast at what he does. I've always loved his authority on the instrument, and that huge vibrato.

I was bored to tears after 10 minutes. I could not wait for that show (ie the one long e minor scale) to be over. JFC.

He's doing a different format now IMO...at the end of the 90's and early 2000s his shows were once again pinnacle. Facing the Animal(like on the LIVE! 98 DVD) and Alchemy Yngwie was on top again, had a fantastic set of musicians in the band and he was doing real shows. People often tout his first set of records as the height of his chops, naw....it was Alchemy(great album and the height of his chops, even lots of new licks...the writing was awesome)...Great playing on Facing the Animal too and the songs were awesome. He was on fire in that time period.

But again, in that time period, he had Olausson, Leven, Boals...he was kicking ass with great musicians at his side. Now it's not the same. He needs to get a great band with him again and do the shows where his solos compliment awesome tracks.

That said, he's the king of the genre....and he hasn't lost it, but just like he always has done...he goes through cycles of greatness and just getting it done....which either way is on a completely different level than most.

No slop, awesome tone, pushing the limit, emotion galore and awesome tunes and performances from the whole band:
On fucking point during that time period!:

Some inhuman shit here, whole solo is awesome....that last decending run in to that groove shred at the end of the solo...just fucking crazy:

He's not doing that anymore..

I’ve seen Yngwie a lot of times.

One time in the mid 1990’s he played a small club in North New Jersey. There were maybe 15 people there. Yngwie took requests. Some requests he played outright, some he played the main riffs. I do remember it being louder than any other Yngwie show.

I remember another time some dude was flipping him off and Yngwie jumped off the stage in mid-song (guitar in hand) and started fighting. Then jumped back on stage and continued playing. lol

Yup, he still did his thing at the height of the short lived grunge years...., gotta respect that, he didn't give a fuck. I remember the reading about the show in Brazil right after September 11 attacks, he played the Star Spangled Banner and the crowd was shouting OSAMA OSAMA.....he got so pissed, went out and played it AGAIN and the crowd was "Osama" again.....he went out and told the crowd "God Bless America, and Fuck you all!" and walked off the stage. Pretty fucking awesome.
For these two posts alone I'm buying tickets. 'Merica!!!!!

Just to add, I know I posted a YJM vid here and uploaded about 5 or 6 more on yt, but Steve Vai, Zakk, and Nuno just killed it as well.

Something about Vai though...very special player. He is nothing short of superb to say the least.

I will agree though, the current axe fx tone, imo, sucks balls, but he makes it work. He has total control and is one with the guitar. Watching him the other night was surreal.

Anyone who sees this show is in for a treat. No surprise that apparently it is Vai who coordinated this whole thing.

ANyone go to the Albany, NY show11/29? It was incredible and sound was GREAT. . no issues whatsoever. I saw this 2 years ago in Hampton Beach and this one was even better. We were about 10 rows back on the Nuno side. I definitely do NOT agree that Yngwie is a different level than anyone there. They all have their strengths and Nuno and Vai AND Tosin are incredibly versatile. . Every guitarist should see this. . . And oh yes, I have Experience Hendrix tix too, and saw that one about 5 years ago. . Can't wait to go again but the lineup isn't as good as this, but it'll still be great

Eric

I went to the show last week, I couldn't see any of Vai's gear, other than it looked like he had the Legacy pedal on a table behind him. His tone seemed off compared to the last few times that I've seen him, though it could have been the house. Is he still using his heads, or is he just using the pedal or an Axe?

Agreed on Vai. The guy comes out after everyone (especially Zakk) has blown their wads all over the place and goes completely Jack Butler on them and essentially drops the mic. Whether you love his style or hate it, there is no denying he is on another plane when it comes to controlling the guitar.

I have never watched Yngwie live but i have met him a shit ton of times cause he sells his personal guitars to a place south of my house in Ft. Lauderdale & he used to Rehearse in North Miami Beach where i went to School. I Remember being in the warehouse facility where he rehearsed back in 2008 or 2009 & his drummer let me in to "look around" he had garbage bags filled with his Guitar Picks. I Hung out for 5 or 10 minutes then went back to school.
